NDC Reaffirms Support for Anti-Gay Bill Amid Presidential Suggestion

Apexnewsgh

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has maintained its unwavering stance on the Anti-Gay Bill, despite President John Dramani Mahama’s suggestion that a government-sponsored bill could be more effective. Apexnewsgh reports

Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga reassured that the party’s position has remained consistent since the elections, dismissing any notion of a shift.

President Mahama’s proposal aimed to facilitate broader consultations and build stronger national consensus on the issue. Additionally, he emphasized the need to revise school curriculums to incorporate moral and cultural education, promoting Ghanaian and African values among young learners.

Ayariga clarified that legislative proposals not finalized within a Parliament’s term are generally considered lapsed. He questioned whether the current Anti-Gay Bill could be simply signed and passed into law, considering its validity may have expired with the previous Parliament.

The NDC’s steadfast support for the Anti-Gay Bill has been reaffirmed, with Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin also committing to ensure its passage into law in 2025.
