Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has been given extra time by the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to choose his running mate for the upcoming election.
The NPP’s constitution requires that the flagbearer selects a running mate one year before the election if the president is not the candidate or the party is not in government.
However, Dr Bawumia appealed to the National Council for more time to consult on the matter. The National Council, with the authority to waive this requirement in special circumstances, granted Dr Bawumia’s request.
The party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, explained that Dr Bawumia needed additional time for consultation before presenting his chosen running mate to the National Council.
