In his closing statement at the Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland, President Nana Akufo-Addo emphasized the far-reaching consequences of Russia’s invasion, particularly on food security in poorer countries. Apexnewsgh reports

“Africa has been the greatest victim,” he stressed, urging Russia and China to join the talks for a definitive settlement.

Ghana opposes “great power hegemony and the bullying of small states,” Akufo-Addo reiterated, condemning Russia’s invasion and aggression. The summit saw 80 countries and four European institutions sign the final joint communique, with notable absences including India, China, and South Africa.

Ukrainian President Zelensky appealed to China to join in developing peace proposals, acknowledging their close ties with Russia but emphasizing that “Ukraine never said China is our enemy.” Russia’s invasion has relied heavily on oil and hydrocarbon sales to China and India, funding their state budget and war effort.

The summit highlighted the need for global cooperation to address the food security crisis and promote peace in the region.
