Minister-designate for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has pledged to tackle the alarming road sector debt, which currently stands at 130 million Ghana Cedis with an accrued interest of 665 million Ghana Cedis. Apexnewsgh reports
Agbodza made this commitment during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, January 20.
The Adaklu lawmaker emphasized the urgent need to address this issue, stating that the accrued interest is essentially “money being wasted.” To rectify this situation, Agbodza plans to engage in discussions with the Finance Minister to explore viable solutions.
Agbodza also highlighted the need to review the contract awarding process for road projects in Ghana. He noted that the current system is “problematic” and requires stakeholders, contractors, and awarding agencies to come together to address the issues.
As a seasoned politician and member of the National Democratic Congress, Agbodza is well-equipped to tackle the challenges facing the road sector. His commitment to addressing the road sector debt and reforming the contract awarding process is a promising step towards improving Ghana’s infrastructure.
