GBC: Staff mad at Director General, as they demand he leaves office

Interesting development coming Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation (GBC) The staff at national broadcaster GBC are expressing their dissatisfaction with their Director-General, Prof Amin Alhassan. Banners have been raised at the state-owned media house, conveying messages such as: “Prof Amin, your 4-year tenure is over. Please return from where you came”, “GBC is in need of a new Director-General”, “Prof Amin, your 4 years as DG at GBC have been a significant failure”, “GBC OB vans are no longer functional under the previous DG”, and “Our retirees are facing difficulties. Please provide them with their retirement benefits.” The workers are firm in their belief that the appointment of the Director-General concluded on October 1, 2023 and they do not want it to be extended. They assert that the conditions at the state broadcaster have worsened under the leadership of Prof Amin. Meanwhile, Prof. Amin is yet to respond to the angry staff. ILLEGAL ALLAWA: NLC summons GBC leadership

Leadership of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has been summoned by the National Labour Commission (NLC) following plans to embark on industrial strike. The aggrieve staff have intensify wearing of red bands to the office as a roadmap to the strike orchestrated by what they say is an illegal directive by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) for certain allowances due them to be stopped and the monies refunded. The summons by the NLC followed a complaint filed by the FWSC on the planned strike by the GBC workers. However, the NLC has, directed both GBC workers and the FWSC to appear before the Commission today, Wednesday, June 7, 2023, for a hearing of the issues in dispute.
