Some opposition party Youth organizers accept the use of Ghana Card for registration

Some Party Youth Organizers who called themselves as Coalition of National Youth Organizers, which includes the National Youth Organizers of the PPP, GCPP, CPP, APC and the PNC has permitted the Electoral Commission (EC) decision to use Ghana Card as a form of identification for the upcoming registration of eligible voters. Statement from the Coalition said: “We the Coalition of National Youth Organizers support the Electoral commission’s decision to accept the Ghana card in that exercise,” The EC has earlier hinted plans to accept the Ghana Card as proof of citizenship when it embarks on the limited registration of eligible voters who have attained the age of 18 and those who were unable to vote during the 2021 registration exercise. The Coalition noted that: “there has not been much debate on the issue of age or the Sanity of registrants over the years, however, the problem has always been the status of the person’s citizenship. “From our checks, over the years, the majority of the challenges that has characterised the electoral registration process by the electoral commission have been to question the citizenship status of the challenged person.” It further noted that: “This has led to the beefing up of our borders with extra Ghanaian security forces every time the electoral commission decides to embark on electoral registration for the fear of non-Ghanaian citizens coming into our country to register as voters. The reason being that, although article 6, to article 10 clearly states who a Ghanaian is, the Ghanaian does not have a valid and acceptable National Identification or document to prove their claim of citizenship. “This has always led to confrontations, tensions and sometimes violence at the registration centers because of the suspicion that foreigners are being registered. This, the credibility of Ghana’s voters register has always been doubted depending on who is in power under the 4th Republic between the NPP and the NDC since 1995.” The coalition indicated that: “We have witnessed countless D-day election violence and post-election violence in Ghana since the beginning of the 4th Republic which is a dent on our image as a democratic country, and most of the cause of the violence has always been the suspicion of non-residents or non-citizens attempting to vote or having voted already.” It continued that it has “taken this position because we believe in our democracy and hope that the post elections litigations and violence that characterise our electoral processes can end when we all resolved that every election conducted in Ghana and the results declared are indeed the will and the decision of Ghanaians. “In that regard, let us be mindful that the electoral commission of Ghana is a strong Pillar if not the last barricade which is safeguarding the democratic path we have chosen as our system of government.” The Coalition also called on politicians, “especially the NPP and the NDC” to “stop interfering in” the work of the EC and stop trying to “wear them our political colours, like we did with Dr Afari Gyan, Madam Charlotte Osei and Now Madam Jean Mensah.” Apexnewsgh.com

PPP begs Akufo-Addo to reinstate GN bank

The Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) is appealing to President Akufo-Addo to intervene for the reinstatement of the license of GN Bank. According to the PPP, nothing has changed after the revocation of the licenses of a number of Ghanaian banks which includes the GN bank. Below is the full statement from the PPP For Immediate Release Date: 18th January, 2022 To: All Media Houses Subject: PAY AFFECTED PERSONS IN THE FINANCIAL SECTOR CLEANUP EXERCISE The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) for the first time wishes to weigh in on the matter involving indigenous Ghanaian contractors, financial institutions and their customers.  We state upfront that the financial institutions were licensed and regulated by government agencies.  The contractors were also given legitimate contracts by government agencies.  It is government regulators that made the decisions to revoke the licenses of specific financial institutions.  Some of these institutions have complained that they are owed by the contractors employed by the state agencies.  They complain further that the decision to withhold payments for work done and cancel contracts, were made by government officials. The Akufo-Addo Administration is the government of the day under whose tenure these problems have been created by its agencies, ministers and officials.  Therefore, we demand urgent action by President Nana Akufo-Addo to solve the problems caused by his government. We demand urgent action as follows, in priority order: Pay all the customers of all regulated financial institutions whose licenses were revoked by government regulators, without conditions. Restore contracts of Ghanaian contractors canceled or suspended because they could not source additional funds to continue the work; and pay the debts (including interest) of the contractors owed to the financial institutions as a result of non-payment over the years.  It is our estimate that these amounts could be as high as GHC10 billion. Give credit to the financial institutions affected for the debts accumulated (including interest) from financing contracts awarded by state agencies. There are indisputable facts that we have taken time to validate.  They include the following: Contrary to the impression given by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, the Receivers and other officials, not all customers of the banks and non-bank financial institutions have received their deposits.  Unfortunately, a huge lie has been told to President Akufo-Addo in this regard. The decision not to pay investments of BlackShield/Gold Coast customers until that company is liquidated does not hold water.  The owners of banks and non-bank financial institutions have taken the Bank of Ghana and the Receivers to court to challenge the revocation of licenses.  Yet, the customers are being paid.  What is good for one is good for the other.  Besides, by agreement the customers of fund management companies have been made to sign, they have become customers of a different fund manager approved by the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC).  The payments have been guaranteed to the customers per that agreement executed between the affected customers and the Amalgamated Fund managed by GCB Capital. In effect, the affected customers are no longer customers of Gold Coast/Blackshield, but they are customers of GCB Capital. The President, the Vice President, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Works & Housing and Roads & Highways have all admitted publicly that indigenous Ghanaian contractors are owed significant sums of money. The Ministry of Finance & Economic Planning led by Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta has been selective in determining which contractors to pay and which ones not to pay.  It has directed funds to financial institutions such as Fidelity Bank to pay contractors bypassing the original lenders.  This has the potential of denying the original lenders funds due them and likely to cause huge judgements debts and financial loss to the state. We now wish to refer to GN Bank and BlackShield both with Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom as a shareholder.  We cannot fathom why such a bank that was clearly thriving prior to 2017 could be shut down so abruptly.  GN Bank invested heavily in technology to enable it to reach 300 locations all over Ghana. It had all manner of infrastructure paid for with valuable shareholder funds including that of a foreign-owned organization.  The bank gave good jobs to over 6,000 men and women across the country and supported the business aspirations of many people.  It made banking safe for over one million customers.  We know that the liquidity crisis that faced the bank was contrived and allowed to fester by government agencies withholding funds owed by contractors. We hereby make a special appeal to the H.E. the President of the Republic to use his authority to cause the reinstatement of the GN Bank license.  Many of the communities are still without a licensed financial institution.  Many valuable assets are simply rotting away.  The economy has not grown to absorb the thousands that were abruptly thrown out of jobs. There are thousands of soldiers, police officers, judges, teachers, civil servants, business people and people from all walks of life whose life savings are locked up as a result of SEC revoking fund managers’ licenses.  We make another appeal to the President of the Republic to direct SEC to make sure that all customers of fund managers including Gold Coast/BlackShield are paid their investments without conditions. Thankfully, Parliament in 2021 approved funds to be used to pay customers of ALL fund managers whose licenses were revoked.  Government has perpetual life but human life is limited.  Some have lost their lives already. The President must intervene with his full executive authority to cause the Finance Minister to make payments to these affected customers who are suffering unnecessarily because of the politics of selective payments to preferred contractors. Finally, we wish to use this opportunity to ask the President to re-examine the method being used in the financial sector to determine the minimum capital requirements of financial institutions in Ghana.  The fixed minimum capital approach adopted by the Ministry of Finance is archaic and discriminates against smaller companies.  The modern world uses a flexible risk-based capital

Amend constitution to allow dual-citizens to be MPs– PPP

The opposition Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has demanded an amendment of the 1992 Constitution to allow Ghanaians who hold dual citizenship to take part in the governance of the country. Read the full statement below: PRESS STATEMENT DELIVERED BY THE PROGRESSIVE PEOPLE’S PARTY TO MARK DECEMBER 7TH AS THE FIX THE CONSTITUTION DAY 7th December 2021 Felix William Ograh – 1st Vice Chairman We thank you for responding to our invitation to this important press conference to mark the observance of 7th December 2021 as the fix the constitution day of the PPP. In September 2021, we declared December 7th as the fix the constitution day. It was and still is our aim, to remind Ghanaians of the need to conduct a surgical operation on the 1992 Constitution in order to make it a development and people-oriented Constitution for the Republic of Ghana. It is evident that after three solid decades of operating this document, a number of the aspirations in its preamble have eluded the good people of Ghana. Ladies and gentlemen, our consistent advocacy for changes to be made to the 1992 Constitution, is fueled by our undying passion to see the people of Ghana prosper in peace. With this current dictatorial, winner-takes-all constitution which allows for ‘create, loot and share’ by all parties that have been in power since 1992, the future does not look exciting. It will only become better if we make some fundamental changes to our constitution which will affect our politics and also affect the way we develop. Despite the numerous changes we have proposed in the past, we would like to stress and reiterate the following for consideration and to be implemented before the 2024 General Elections. The five areas are as follows: Return power to the people for all Ghanaians to directly elect their district, municipal and metropolitan chief executives without any interference from the President and cancel government appointees into the District Assemblies; Prohibit Members of Parliament from being appointed as Ministers of State or MPs must resign from parliament after their ministerial appointment; Strengthen the office of Attorney-General by separating it from the Ministry of Justice; Introduce a Public Declaration of Assets Regime; and Clarify the eligibility of Ghanaians in the Diaspora to hold Public Office MMDCEs [Amend Articles 242(d) and Articles 243(1) & 243(3)] It will be superfluous to recount the benefits of electing directly and by Universal Adult Suffrage all our Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) as well as all the Members of the District Assemblies. We would like to emphasize that the concept of government appointees should also be completely abolished. This matter has been flogged over the years with elected governments demonstrating a lack of political will to empower the districts to elect their Chief Executive Officers who are the true agents of development. The Members of Parliament (MPs) whose job is to pass legislation have arrogated to themselves the role of development agents with no constitutionally allocated resources. The result is that MPs have resorted to all kinds of unorthodox ways and policy violations to attempt to bring some piecemeal development to the people. For example, the office of the Chief Executive has become a trophy to be won and hijacked by elected political parties to reward party members who could neither become MPs nor Ministers of State. It is therefore not surprising, as their tradition, to see the current General Secretary of the ruling party travelling around the country to conduct the so-called vetting of applicants mostly, party foot soldiers, who have applied to become MMDCEs. When did a political party become a substitute for the established Public Services Commission for the vetting and appointments of candidates to occupy public office? The election of District Chief Executives is long overdue because it remains a democratic deficit and a major impediment in the development of the various smaller units that constitute Ghana. It will ensure that all the resources allocated by the Constitution through the District Assembly Common Fund are demanded by the elected officers and same sent to the districts promptly for local development. It will ensure local accountability, elimination of corruption and rapid development. If citizens are capable of electing the president and members of parliament, they should be credited with the wisdom to decide who governs them at the local government level. The political chicanery orchestrated by the ruling party to deny the good people of Ghana their power; following the aborted referendum on whether or not MMDCEs should be elected on a partisan basis must be viewed as a coup d’état against the people of Ghana by the political class. The question of a partisan election of MMDCEs or otherwise can only be answered by Ghanaians at a referendum so no one can sit in Accra and deny Ghanaians that opportunity under the pretext of a certain lack of consensus. How else can you know the position of Ghanaians on this matter other than through a referendum? The president and the other members of the political class cannot and should not use the partisan debate to conveniently deflect the urgent need for all DCEs plus all Assembly Members to be elected freely and by Universal Adult Suffrage. For the avoidance of doubt, we can actually elect our Chief Executives without going for a referendum. All that we need to do now is for parliament to amend articles 242(d) which deals with the appointment of one-third of Assembly Members and Articles 243(1) and 243(3) which deals with the appointment (and disappointment) of the Chief Executive. Making the referendum on Article 55(3), which prohibits political parties from local government elections, a pre-condition for electing MMDCEs is mischievous and a calculated attempt to postpone once again a very important constitutional amendment. We call on the government to choose patriotism over partisanship in this respect and allow the people of Ghana to elect their own District Chief Executives. If we want Ghanaians to allow political parties to participate in the local

BONGO: Prof. Avea Nsoh Vindicates Peter Ayinbisa earlier stance on…..

Profession Avea Nsoh, one of the leading party members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bongo Constituency of the Upper East Region has said, it is true the NDC squeezed the Bongo NPP Parliamentary candidate for the 2020 general election hands at his back and took his victory away. In a news item published on December 13, 2021 by Apexnewsgh.com with the headline ‘UER: NDC Squeezed my hands at my back and took the victory away from me’, a statement made the 2020 Bongo Parliamentary Candidate for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Peter Ayinbisa after the election. After the statement by Mr. Ayinbisa who contested Edward Bawa in the 2020 general elections, Apexnewsgh.com also proceeded to Edward Bawa who emerged victorious after the votes count to verify Ayinbisa’s claims of winning the Bongo seat through the efforts of his party bigwigs in the constituency who came at the late hour to the election to assist him with campaigns. But Mr. Bawa disregarded the claim by his contender when Apexnewsgh called on him. Below are the words of Peter Ayinbisa the 2020 Bongo Parliamentary Candidate for the NPP when Apexnewsgh engaged him earlier. “So, imagine how former Ministers, former chief director, former chairmen, former Parliamentary candidate, ranging from Professor Avea, Hon. Albert Abongo, Lawyer Bawah Dua, Simon Alangde, Alexis Adugdoo, Dr. Atinga, Dr. Rainer Akumperigya, Mr, Aluzeeri and Thomas, Accountant, Ghana Maritime Authority coming home extending resources in every community. Wherever I went and gave Ghc 500.00, Profession Thomas Akabzaa went and gave Ghc1000, Ghc1200 and Ghc1500 not that they came home only with the resources, they came and started intimidating the young men and women, they started insulting and inviting them to their houses telling them they are not fighting for Edward Bawa, they are fighting for the party. So, all of them should team up and work for their party. So definitely, some of them admitted that if I get the seat, it will take the NDC so many years to come back because they know am a developmental oriented person, they know my human relation, so, it will be difficult for them to come back.” He stated According to Prof Avea Nsoh, one of the names mentioned by the NPP defeated Ayinbisa in his claims as those who came to squeeze his hands at the back and took his victory away has confirmed to Apexnewsgh.com that Mr. Ayinbisa was right. The former Upper East and West Regional Minister told Apexnewsgh.com that, the earlier plan was to sit back and watch Edward Bawa do his own thing especially when he (Edward) did not see some of them in the party as important.  He said, if not for the sake of some of their senior party members who called and asked them to forgive and look at the party welfare, Peter Ayinbisa would have won the Bongo seat in a very simple manner for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) However, he told Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh that, he does not regret his support for Edward Bawa in the 2020 election, because during their meetings then, he acknowledged his previous mistakes and said he was misguided and ignorant. Profession Avea Nsoh spoke exclusively with Apexnewsgh.com on Friday, January 29, 2021. “I think Ayinbisa was right, in the last 4 years when Bawa came in, he has not conducted himself in terms of managing human beings here as within the party. So, for some of us and I used to tell him at various forums. So, this time people just said ok, no one has said anything, let’s just stay in our corner and make sure he loses this time. So, he would have lost big time and that one there is no question about it, he would have lost. If you look at the last 4 years how the PPP candidate got almost about 30,000 votes, this year he didn’t get anything. The reason was that no one likes Bawa at the time and there was open opposition known as Lai Lai faction. So, people like us just withdraw, we didn’t attend any of the campaigns and stuff like that. They wanted someone to give it to and they did that because the NPP person wasn’t very well known, he wasn’t proactive and he has not been moved around and most importantly, he didn’t have the resources because he wasn’t in power so it was difficult. So, they saw this young man who was very smart and I think they could give their vote to the PPP man. So, if for instance that time Ayinbisa was the candidate because he had the resource, he got a lot of us, we have been friends for some time, but not friends to eat and drink every day, but we have been friends. So, people felt now the PPP candidate is not strong enough and he doesn’t have a base, and NPP have a number of votes already, so they felt they would have just voted Bawa out, so that was the idea. So that he can learn a lesson and others can learn”.  “Bawa is a nice person but, is just that he starts from a wrong path and he will not take his time and listen, look at the system and the background that is how the problem was. So, that is why people wanted to teach him a lesson and also, we wanted to just sit and watch. But some of our Senior colleagues said no, we shouldn’t do that, that politics isn’t all about that and they initiated some kind of meeting and then we decided then that we have to come and support him to win the seat and I don’t regret, because first of all, I was happy that he (BAWA) came openly in the meeting to say he admits his previous mistakes, by saying he was misguided, he was ignorant and I told him it was this same thing we were telling

Electoral Materials Arrives Upper Region As Agents Of Political Parties Battle For Safety Location

Confusion erupted between political party agents in the Upper East Regional capital Bolgatanga on Friday, November 2020, upon the arrival of electoral materials for the December 7 elections. The misunderstanding came as a result of where to keep the electoral materials for safety ahead of the December 7 elections. But unfortunately, the party agents, especially agents of the two main political parties NDC / NPP and the Police all share different views on where the electoral materials will be kept for safety. Sadly, shortly after the electoral materials were brought into the Regional at the Regional Police Headquarters, party representatives of the various political parties were seen uncomfortable as they started registering displeasure following where the electoral material will be kept for safety ahead of the Parliamentary and Presidential December elections. Meanwhile earlier on, the police proposed a certain location but unfortunately, the opposition NDC were not in agreement as they rejected the proposal insisting that the electoral material should be kept at the usual place inside a room by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) building for sleeping dogs to lie, and that proposal by the opposition NDC was accepted by all the stakeholders. However, after the agreement by all stakeholders, they all examined the electoral materials which enable them to take a record of the serial numbers printed on the ballot papers Some election observers from the European Union (EU) were present to witness the event. Video: Poster war between NPP and NDC in Bongo

There has been growing tension between the youth of the two main political parties in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region. A viral video which was seen by Apexnewsgh.com captures the moment of some youth believed to be in the Bongo District were spotted removing the campaign flyer of President Akufo Akufo-Addo.   According to the information reaching Apexnewsgh.com, the youth were actually removing the flyer of the president to make Edward Abambire Bawa’s flyer more visible all because they alleged that he was the first to have his flyer on the said billboard. Edward Abambire Bawa happens to be a Ghanaian politician and member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Bongo Constituency in the Upper East Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress. The video which has gone viral has also caused some tension between the fans of the 2 main political parties. Some were actually of the view that they had no right to do that and that it was totally illegal and should be arrested for their actions whilst others were of the view that the whole campaign picture should have been pulled down. However, the paramount Chief of the Bongo traditional area Bon-Naba Baba Salifu Atamale Lemyurum has advised the two parties to remove their posters from the billboard to allow peace prevail in the constituency. video attached   Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please kindly contact APEXNEWSGH on Email: apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible News publications

Navrongo Central PPP Parliamentary candidate cries for traders in the Navrongo market.

PPP Parliamentary candidate in the Navrongo Central of the Upper East Region has expressed some level of disappointment; frustration and pain for the unbearable nature of sanitation witnessed in the Navrongo market during the weekend. Madam Agoriba Kubirizegah visited the two markets and the abattoir on Saturday, October 3, 2020, as part of her campaign activity ahead of the 2020 election.   “Sanitation is a key problem in Navrongo, which authorities are not bothered about and if not tackled early, it can worsen the health situation of the people. Our population is nothing as compared to the big cities and if, we are not populated like the big cities such as Kumasi and Accra and we cannot handle sanitation, what will happen in the next 5 to 10 years?” She said   According to her, is unfortunate that the big politicians in the Constituency are not seeing sanitation as a challenge, because they are not leaving with the people in the Constituency. “When they don’t live with the people, they wouldn’t be able to know that this is what the people are going through but as for me, I lived with the people and I shopped in those markets every market day. I go the abattoir to buy meats and I saw what is happening. So, is a very big challenge. When am giving the opportunity as an MP serve the people, I will be able to address that challenge.” However, Madam Kubirizegah blamed the Assembly for not considering sanitation as a big challenge.   Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please kindly contact APEXNEWSGH on Email: apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible News publications
