Interesting development coming Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation (GBC) The staff at national broadcaster GBC are expressing their dissatisfaction with their Director-General, Prof Amin Alhassan. Banners have been raised at the state-owned media house, conveying messages such as: “Prof Amin, your 4-year tenure is over. Please return from where you came”, “GBC is in need of a new Director-General”, “Prof Amin, your 4 years as DG at GBC have been a significant failure”, “GBC OB vans are no longer functional under the previous DG”, and “Our retirees are facing difficulties. Please provide them with their retirement benefits.” The workers are firm in their belief that the appointment of the Director-General concluded on October 1, 2023 and they do not want it to be extended. They assert that the conditions at the state broadcaster have worsened under the leadership of Prof Amin. Meanwhile, Prof. Amin is yet to respond to the angry staff. The Director General for the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan has made an interesting revelation about Ghana Football Association (GFA). Ghanaians who were asked to Pay for their TV License have questioned the importance of Paying an annual Ghc 36.00 to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation when they cannot afford to show premiership matches that they see as relevant and important. The TV License fee was introduced by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation to enable the Corporation to concentrate more on Public Service Broadcasting and also improve content. Meanwhile, responding to the question asked by Ghanaians concerning the telecast of the premiership, Professor Alhassan said, the decision to allow GBC to have the premier league rest with the GFA. According to him, the last time they advertised and GBC paid, they gave it to the Chinese even though they were very convinced that GBC offered a better bid. “They denied the opportunity to show Ghanaians the Premier League”. He stated “GBC is always ready whether, for profit or no profit, we were not into profit-making, we believed that Ghanaians deserved to watch the premier league, all the matches with solid production”. “GBC boasts of the best sports production team in the country, we have the capacity and we have the channel to carry it. We are ably represented in every region and we can do it if GFA gives us the opportunity to bring to Ghanaians the league matches. So, it was a GFA decision, not GBC”. Prof Alhasaan insist Expressing dissatisfaction, the GBC Director said: “I feel very disappointed, sad as a Ghanaian and it will not happen in anywhere. I am an executive member of the African Union of Broadcasters, no African country has done that and only Ghana did. I mean you can believe that Ghana of all countries, the first country to be Independent, pan Africanist will give out such a very important cultural content to a foreign entity whereas, the state a national broadcaster has the capacity and the ability to deliver.
