The Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt E.S Okraku has announced that the first-ever football academy to be owned by the Football Association will be based in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region. The GFA President made the wonderful announcement on Friday, June 23, 2023, during the commissioning of the FIFA-sponsored standard Artificial Turf and Technical Center Phase One/ Sod Cutting Ceremony for Changing Rooms phase two in Winkongo. “The first ever Football Academy to be owned by the Football Association will be based here on your soil. We will combined education and football right on this soil” GFA President told the people of Talensi district. The GFA President, was very optimistic that the Upper East region has the potential to produce a lot more super talents and perhaps a lot more of Abedi Ayew Pelles if and only if we support our youth with first-class football infrastructure. “It is very true that there is a shortage of first-class football infrastructure in this part of our country. Just by way of statistics, we have seen one club qualify from Division 2 to Division 1 and what that means is that, in the Upper East Region, we have one first-Division club, and in the Upper East Region, we have 24-second Division club, in the Upper East Region we have 21 third Division clubs and in the Upper East Region, we have 7 women Division 1 league clubs and most importantly, in this part of our country, we have 84 juvenile clubs”. He stated that all the football clubs he mentioned above do deserve first-class football infrastructure. Stressing that, “it is the only way as a country we can develop a lot more sports talents to represent our country at various levels of football ecosystem”. UER: GFA President, Tongo-Raana commissioned FIFA Standard Artificial Turf and Technical Center, Cut Sod for Phase Two
A FIFA-sponsored standard Astroturf pitch has been commissioned in Winkongo of the Talensi District in the Upper East Region. A little over $1 million dollars project which was assessed from FIFA projects 1.0 and 2.0 was commissioned on Friday, June 23, 2023, by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt E.S Okraku, the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu, Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tongo-Raana Kolbilsong Namalteng, the Winkongo Chief and representative from the Ministry of sports Mr. Horen Kofi Quashigah, Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman Salifu Shaibu Zida and some other football people. Speaking at the commissioning of the standard Artificial Turf and Technical Center Phase One/ Sod Cutting Ceremony for Changing Rooms phase two, the GFA President said, “FA recognizes that there are a lot of talents in schools, it also recognizes the need for us to make a bold statement to our students that they can also learn and pursue their football dreams and therefore, the vision of the FA is to set up an Academies in the northern part of Ghana. The first one in the northern part of Ghana will be set up here in the Upper East”. According to him, what that means is that, the FA will scout talents in the JHS system and specifically JHS 3 that will be in the category of boys and girls who will be getting ready to go to SHS and the topmost talent from all the regions in the northern region will be brought here in BIGBOSS. “So, BIGBOSS will be their school, and they will study and learn football. We will do the same in the middle belt specifically the Ashanti region and we will also do the third one in the Great Accra region”. In the second phase, we are going to see the construction of the changing room and then, when that is done we will announce the third phase which will include the construction of the office space. GFA President stated Speaking about the benefits that await the people of the Upper East Region, the GFA President said, the Upper East has the potential to produce a lot more super talents and perhaps a lot more of Abedi Ayew Pelles if and only if we support our youth with first-class football infrastructure. “It is very true that there is a shortage of first-class football infrastructure in this part of our country. Just by way of statistics, we have seen one club qualify from Division 2 to Division 1 and what that means is that, in the Upper East Region, we have one first-Division club, in the Upper East Region, we have 24-second Division club, in the Upper East Region we have 21 third Division clubs and in the Upper East Region, we have 7 women Division 1 league clubs and most importantly, in this part of our country, we have 84 juvenile clubs”. He stated that all the football clubs he mentioned above do deserve first-class football infrastructure. Stressing that, “it is the only way as a country we can develop a lot more sports talents to represent our country at various levels of football ecosystem”. The GFA President further expressed his satisfaction, with the effort of the BIGBOSS Secondary School, which came through the effort of the Chief of Winkongo, through the effort of the paramount chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, for their role in the magnificent edifice been given out for public use and for the football community. He said, the decision to come to the Upper East was not too difficult for the hardworking executive committee of the Football Association. “Indeed, we have 16 political regions in this country, we have 10 football regions in this country and the question is why did we choose Upper East? What is so important is when we approached the Upper East, they opened their arm to welcome Ghana Football Association to bring this amazing investment to this part of our country”. “It took a hardworking staff of the Football Association led by the Secretary to work closely with FIFA governance to ensure that we take all the boxes and most importantly to ensure that FIFA would agree for this investment to take place here”. “The football pitch that we see in front of us cost Ghana Football Association a little over $1 million dollars. This money was assessed from what we call FIFA Project 1.0 and 2.0. The little over a million dollars includes all the taxes and demurrage taxes that were paid to ensure we deliver this project in quality and on time”. He said “What we are witnessing today, represents phase 1 of our project. The vision of the Football Association is to invest and continue to invest on this soil for us to establish what we call the Technical center of our Football Association”. However, the GFA President revealed that currently, the entire Football Association (FA) has only one center and it is situated in Accra in Prampram, the intention of your FA is to replicate it here on this soil. “So, for this phase of the project, we have a FIFA standard Astroturf full-size pitch, we have a standby generator that will power the light, and two goal posts the coaches will use but beyond these, we will cut the sod for the construction of changing rooms that will allow our boys and girls to change and offer themselves to their coaches to be trained”. Make exercise a regular feature in your daily lives–Regional Minister appeals to workers
The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has used the ‘Peace Walk’ activity organized by Parliamentarians in the region to appeal to all participants to make walking exercise a regular feature in their daily lives. Hon. Yakubu made the appeal on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the climax of the 30th Anniversary of Parliamentary Democracy organized by Members of Parliament. Addressing Parliamentarians and members of the general public who participated in the Peace Walk, Hon. Said: “The significance of this celebration are enormous. First of all, it is a recognition of the role each of our regions can play in the development of the country irrespective of your geographical location. It also makes the people of the region and the country at large recognize the importance of democratic rule. And above all, this Health Walk together with the other fun games will undoubtedly improve upon the health of especially sedentary workers”. The regional Minister acknowledged that most workers hardly allocate time for themselves to do exercise, as he used the opportunity to appeal for them to make exercise a regular activity in their daily lives “These groups of workers hardly find time to exercise but are always found sitting behind their desks. We will like to use this opportunity to appeal to all participants to make walking exercise a regular feature in their daily lives”. “Let me state that parliament is a noble institution that is clothed with the authority to make laws for the country. Consequently, as citizens, we need to consider the caliber of persons we vote to represent us as our legislators. We need to vote for these people based on their integrity and love for the region and country”. “At the end of the day, we want people who can represent the hopes and aspirations of the citizenry. I am highly delighted to see in our midst this morning former members of parliament including my good self-participating in this epoch-making celebration irrespective of our political lineage”. He said However, Peace Walk saw the presence of Members of Parliament such as Dr. Dominic Ayine the former Deputy Attorney General, Hon. Cletus Avoka, Member of Parliament for Zebilla Constituency, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, Member of Parliament for the Nabdam Constituency, Hon. Isaac Adongo, Member of Parliament for Bolga Central and Hon. Albert Alalzuuga, Member of Parliament for the Garu Constituency. Watch Video:Hon. Isaac Adongo, Dr. Dominic Ayine, Dr. Kurt Nawaane and Hon. Cletus Avoka display football skills
The celebration of the 30th anniversary of parliamentary democracy was climaxed in Bogatanga the Upper East Regional capital. It started with a peace walk from the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) through the principal street of Bolgatanga and later ended at Mobile Park. Meanwhile, ending the peace walk for the morning section, the Members of Parliament reconvened at the mobile park for the climax which saw a lot of sporting activities such as a sack race, draft, and football games. Interestingly, the Members of Parliament present at the celebration participated in all the sporting activities and did massively well. One would have thought that the MPs are only good at making laws in the chamber of parliament. Unfortunately, the MPs have proven that aside from making laws in parliament, they are also good at sporting activities, especially football. The member of parliament for Nabdam Constituency Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, the Bolga East MP, Dr. Dominc Ayine, the Bolga Central MP, Isaac Adongo, the Garu MP, Hon. Albert Akuka Alalzuuga and Hon. Cletus Avoka the Zebilla Member of parliament exhibited massive skills in the field of play during a football game between staff of Upper East Regional Coordinating Council and Members of Parliament. However, because of the tough nature of the game, both sides ended the game in a 1-1 draw resulting in a penalty that later went in favor of the RCC team. However, the skills exhibited by the MPs were so massive check it out. WATCH VIDEO Pictures to watch: Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. We need a sports stadium for the people of Upper East Region—Hon. Cletus Avoka
The Member of Parliament for the Zebilla Constituency Hon. Cletus Avoka has intensified calls for a sports stadium for the people of the Upper East region. Hon. Avoka spoke to Apexnewsgh.com in Bolgatanga after the celebration of the 30th anniversary of parliamentary democracy in the region on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Meanwhile, responding to a question with regards lack of stadiums in the region, the Zebilla Member of Parliament said, the only abandoned stadium in the region started in the 1970s and one would have thought it would have developed into either a regional or national status. “The Bolgatanga Sports Stadium started during the Achampong’s time in the 1970s and we thought that by now they would have developed it to a regional status or a national status. So that, if we get a team in the first division in the premier league of Ghana they can all play or if there is African cup of nation like Tamale was one of the centers, Bolga can also be a center”. Hon. Avoka acknowledged the Upper East stadium as a challenge to the Ministry in charge of sport, as he promised, that they will be making a case with the Ministry when they returned back to Parliament. “Is a challenge to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to as a matter of urgency, we need a sports stadium for the people of Upper East Region and we already had one but it needs development and am using this forum to inform them that there is a lot of sporting potentials in the region and not only football but other disciplines. So, they should develop the infrastructure and we have 15 districts and none of them have a very good sports stadium and we pray that when we go back, we will make a case with the Ministry of Youth and Sports” Hon. Avoka told Apexnewsgh.com Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Contact: 0256336062
Roma into Europa League final
Jose Mourinho’s Roma reached the Europa League final by holding Bayer Leverkusen to a goalless draw in the second leg of their semi-final tie. Edoardo Bove’s goal gave the Italian side a 1-0 win in the first leg, and that was enough to take them through. Moussa Diaby struck the crossbar for Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen side in the first half of the second leg, but they could not find the breakthrough. Roma progress to face Sevilla in the final in Budapest on 31 May. Mourinho has won all five of his previous five European finals, including last season’s Europa Conference League with Roma. “My concern isn’t marking my place in the Roma history books,” Mourinho told Sky Sports. “It’s helping these kids [players] to grow and achieve important things. “It’s also helping the Roma fans who have given me so much since day one. It’s an immense joy to get to another final.” With a deficit to overturn, Leverkusen were on the front foot early on and Diaby came close to levelling the tie after being sent clear down the right, only for his fierce effort to rattle the bar and bounce clear. Kerem Demirbay saw his low shot saved by Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio soon after, while Leverkusen were furious when the referee waved play on when Sardar Azmoun appeared to be pulled down by Bryan Cristante just outside the box with just Patricio to beat. The home side continued to push forward in the second half with Azmoun dragging a shot just wide, but for all their territorial dominance they struggled to create clear-cut chances. Instead Roma can look forward to a second European final in as many years having not reached one for 31 years prior to last season. —BBC—
Peter Ayinbisa-Regional Communication Director NPP (Left) Abdallah Salifu-Regional Communication Officer NDC (Right)
NDC has no moral right to criticize ongoing Astroturf in Binduri–Peter Ayinbisa
The Upper East Regional Director of Communication for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Region does not have the moral right to criticize the ongoing Astroturf in the Binduri constituency and any other parts of the region, because they failed woefully without giving the region even a 4 by 4 Astroturf when they had the opportunity to produce a sports Minister Mahama Ayariga a resident of the Upper East Region. Mr. Ayinbisa was responding to the claim made by the NDC Regional Communication Officer Abdallah Salifu, who during an interview with Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com on Monday described the ongoing construction of Astroturf by the Binduri Member of Parliament Abdulai Abanga as “4 by 4 Astroturf’ Meanwhile, responding further to the claim made by the RCO, Mr. Ayinbisa questioned the NDC record in Binduri as far as sports development is concerned since 1992. “He is saying that the Astroturf is 4 by 4, what is your record in that constituency in terms of sports development in that constituency? They have occupied that seat since 1992 and they have not built a 4 by 4 Astroturf facility in that constituency. Just within two and half years, Hon. Abanga has lobbied and they have brought the Astroturf facility to Binduri Constituency and he is complaining. If he likes, he should call it zero Astroturf, we all know they have not done anything for the people of Binduri they have not given them any sports facility”. “Let me put it on record, that what we are seeing is phase one of the project, phase two will come and it will contain many more recreational areas within the constituency and I want to assure NDC, by the time we are done with what we want to do Abdallah himself will run to Binduri to exercise to become more fits than he is currently. He will definitely stop going to magani and go to Binduri”. Ayinbisa stressed He said, the NDC promised to build a sports stadium in the region and they ended up doing nothing. “Mahama Ayariga was a Sports Minister and he did nothing and today, we are building an Astroturf in Binduri, We are building Astroturf in Pusiga, we are building Astroturf in Bolga and we are building a mini Sports Stadium in Navrongo. So, we are building four (4) Astroturf within this region”. “The NDC did not build any single Astroturf in the region since 1992. So, they don’t have the moral right to talk about that”. He stressed Meanwhile, pointing out some of Hon. Abanga’s contributions to his people of Binduri within just a two years interval in office, the NPP Regional Communication Director Mr. Ayinbisa said: Medical equipment comprises of beds, mattresses, wheelchairs, and some other medical equipment that I might not be able to mention on this platform. No MP for Binduri has ever presented medical equipment to the hospital and I deer them to produce any records of any of their MPs, Ministers, or Deputy Ministers having procured any medical equipment and supply to the Binduri Constituency and that is what Hon. Abanga the lone ranger of this region, the single MP for this region is doing for the people of Binduri. “The MP has supplied over 700 dual desks to schools in Binduri. Look, am here in Bongo and am looking at what my MP has done and I can tell you and bet you my last pesewas that Edward Bawa has not supplied up to 700 pieces of furniture to schools in Bongo, he has not even supplied up to 300 furniture to schools in the district. I have not seen, I have not heard that he has supplied furniture to schools in our district up to 700 and that is what the MP for Binduri has done”. he stated The NPP Regional Communication Director maintained that Hon. Abanga thinks about the Children, “he thinks about the future of children and that is what he has done in the constituency. So, if you sit in your corner you think the MP has done nothing. I am telling you on authority that the MP has drilled over 35 boreholes, he drilled a good number before buying the wreck but after buying the wreck, he has drilled over 35 boreholes”. “The claim by Abdallah that, the wreck is his personal one, what is wrong about that? Don’t we use our personal benevolence to help communities? This is an MP whose colleagues used their Common Funds or used the loans they were supposed to use to buy V-8 vehicles to have comfort by driving around the country, coming to the constituency to show off, sitting comfortably and going around the constituency. This is an MP who decided to discount his comfort by using the loan he was supposed to use to buy a V-8, he added money from his personal resources to buy a wreck to drill boreholes to the benefit of the people. What is wrong with that? He asked Meanwhile, Ayinbisa also maintained that, It is only the NDC who doesn’t do that, “they are always waiting to use government-made resources, they are always waiting for the normal allocated resources before they can do something for the constituency”. Mr. Ayinbisa told Apexnewsgh.com He shared some phone footage of medical equipment supplied by Hon. Abanga Source: Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana For publication please kindly contact us on 0256336062 or Email apexnewsgh@gmail.com
