Your premature flagbearer campaign could send us into opposition – NPP group to Bawumia
A group identifying itself as the NPP Grassroots has expressed worry over the preponderance of posters, videos and other communication materials of Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, championing his presidential ambition. In a release to the press, the group said it is puzzled as to why the Vice-President and his team were deliberately flouting the party’s rules and regulations when they were very much aware that it was against the governing party’s constitution for any member to begin circulating posters across the nation against an election which is meant to be held in 2023. The statement further noted that: “If party members who would want to contest the position of polling station executive, constituency executive, member of parliament and national executive in 2022 haven’t begun pasting posters, then, the vice-president must know better”. They stressed: “It is obvious that the new patriotic party cannot afford to lose the 2024 general elections. Especially when our party under Nana Akufo-Addo’s leadership has laid down a strong foundation to consolidate development”. The group also argued that it saw this “desperate” action of the vice-president and his team as one which is meant to “send the New Patriotic Party into opposition”. “This is because Ghanaians cannot understand why a vice-president, who must focus to support the president to be successful in his second term, would rather channel his energy into beginning his flagbearer campaign less than three months into President Akufo-Addo’s second term. Simply put, the vice-president wants to discredit the NPP in the eyes of Ghanaians”. The NPP Grassroots alarmed that the move could create chaos in the party said they take a strong exception to the action of the vice president and are calling on him to publicly disassociate himself from the said action if he is not the one sponsoring it and subsequently instruct his people to pull down all the posters in question. “Failure to do so will leave us grassroots members with only one option and that is to remove all posters of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia geared towards 2023 NPP congress,” the statement said. classfm Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. I have only one wife – Bawumia reacts to Ramatu story
The office of the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has reacted to reports suggesting that the Vice President has another wife named Ramatu. According to the office, Dr Bawumia has only one wife in the person of Samira Bawumia with whom they have been married for the past 17 years even though his religion as a Muslim permits him to marry up to four wives. The couple has four children, three boys and one girl. In a statement issued on Friday, March 12, 2021 by the Spokesperson of the Vice President, Dr Gideon Boako, the public was therefore asked to “ignore the propaganda and deliberate falsehood.” How the Ramatu issue came about On January 7, 2021, the then newly elected Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin when he was introducing the guests at the inauguration of President Akufo-Addo and Vice-President Bawumia mistakenly referred to the wife of the Vice-President, Mrs Samira Bawumia as “Ramatu.” When Mr Bagbin realised that he had made a mistake, he clarified the mistake and said it came as a result of what had been written for him. The Speaker after realizing he mentioned a different name said; “oh this is the name I was given” and he corrected himself and subsequently went ahead and introduced Mrs Samira Bawumia. After that incident, some media reports suggested the Vice-President had a second wife known as Ramatu who was unknown to the public. Some reports went ahead to circulate a photograph of the said Ramatu. On Tuesday March 9, 2021, when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo presented the 2021 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament and it got to the section of the introduction of the guests in Parliament, some Members of Parliament from the Minority side in a chorused voice shouted “we want Ramatu” repeatedly when it was the turn of Mrs Samira Bawumia to be introduced. This compelled the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Bagbin to respond to the Ramatu chants and said he does not know anyone who has a girlfriend called Ramatu. “Honorable members, I don’t know which of you has a girlfriend called Ramatu but we don’t have any dignitary here called Ramatu,” Mr Bagbin said. Since then, the speculation of the purported second wife of the Vice-President has deepened. Ignore fabricated Ramatu story In the statement from the office of the Vice-President, it was explained that “the attention of the office of the Vice-President has been drawn to stories and pictures circulating of a woman supposedly named ‘Ramatu’ who is being claimed as a wife of the Vice-President.” “The office of the Vice-President wishes to inform the general public that the Vice-President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has never met or seen this purported Ramatu let alone take her as a wife.” “She is a figment of the imagination of people trying hard to tarnish the image of the Vice-President for their own purposes.” “For the avoidance of doubt, the Vice-President has only one wife, his dear Samira Bawumia and they have been married for 17 years even though his religion permits him to marry up to four wives.” “We ask the public to ignore the propaganda and deliberate falsehood,” the statement said. In a radio interview in March 2020, the wife of the Vice President, Mrs Samira Bawumia revealed that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia could not propose directly to her when they first met. Explaining how they met, Mrs Samira Bawumia said she completed the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the year 2000. “We [me and Dr Bawumia] met years later… we met through mutual friends,” who introduced us and it was love at first sight. According to her, Dr Bawumia was attracted to her the moment they first met and concluded he had met his soul mate, “a catch,” she said amidst laughter when she appeared on the Ekosii Sen radio programme on Accra based Asempa FM on March 9, 2020], which was monitored by Graphic Online. The couple has four children, three boys and one girl. Mrs Bawumia was on the radio programme on that day to talk about a wide range of issues in line with the International Women’s Day (IWD) [March 8] but in responding to a question from a listener who wanted to know how the couple met, she said Ghanaian men in general normally do not propose to their women and that is exactly what Dr Bawumia did when they met. Speaking in the Twi language, Mrs Bawumia said Dr Bawumia had to beat about the bush but she [Samira] concluded he was interested in her when they first met, she said amidst laughter. Why ‘Ramatu’ is trending on Twitter after Akufo-Addo’s SONA
As President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo wrapped up his State of the Nation Address, Tuesday, social media platform Twitter, as usual, was inundated with comments about his address, with various hashtags. One hashtag though, which managed to top the trends although it was not centered on the address was ‘Ramatu’ – a name that was chorused by voices believed to have emanated from the Minority in Parliament. The Speaker of the House, Alban Bagbin, somewhat popularized ‘Ramatu’ during the inauguration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as President of the Republic on January 7, 2021, when he introduced the Second Lady Samira Bawumia as Ramatu Bawumia. The announcement left a lot of the audience shocked, and the Speaker sensing discomfort and murmurings on the premises said “I don’t know if the Second Lady has done an affidavit to change her name but that is what I have here”, referring to the programme brochure. This fan to flame unsubstantiated allegations that the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia possibly has another wife, a claim which has not been denied by the parties involved. Outside the chamber of Parliament, in a giant marquee mounted at the car park of the forecourt of the State House, where President Akufo-Addo delivered his first State of the Nation Address of his second term, the Speaker in accordance with Standing Order 58, conveyed to the President, the gratitude of the House and said a formal communication will be forwarded to the Office of the President after the House has thoroughly debated the address. Having said this, the Speaker acknowledged some dignitaries present. At the mention of Samira Ramadan Bawumia as the spouse of the Vice President, a section of the gathering begun to chorus “we want Ramatu”, eliciting a humorous response from the Speaker who said he does not know who is Ramatu. “Honorable members, I don’t know which of you has a girlfriend called Ramatu but we don’t have any dignitary here called Ramatu,” Bagbin said. I’m the first person who will suffer huge casualties, if we go to opposition–Kennedy Agyapong
“NPP people should listen to me. Well, if we go to opposition, I’m the first person who will suffer huge casualties, therefore I’m not going to sit down for anybody to make a mistake to send the party to opposition. Don’t think that I’ll remain silent, I will definitely talk after all the ministers are appointed and approved by Parliament. If the NPP like, let them repeat the same mistakes and see if they can control me. No, no, no, they can’t, if they do. So their fixation on power at this early stage of Akufo Addo’s second term must be shelved. MP for Assin Central, Ken Agyapong has cautioned The Assin Central Member of Parliament, Ken Agyapong who was very furious told Oman FM in an interview monitored by Apexnewsgh.com condemned growing tension building up by supporters of Alan Kyerematen the trade minister, and Vice-President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia over who succeeds President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo just after the general election, stressing that if the campaign continues between supporters of the two, it will send the party to opposition. “It is too early to start jostling for who’ll succeed President Akufo Addo when he’s even yet to form his government for the second term. We should learn from our past mistakes and stop disintegrating the party with our ambitions, it will not help the party.” However, the General Secretary of the governing NPP, John Boadu said the party will not tolerate the testing of waters now by party bigwigs who have ambitions of leading the party as Flagbgearer into the 2024 Presidential election. COVID-19 vaccination: It was painful, but I smiled – Bawumia
Vice-president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has confessed he had to put up a nice face while being vaccinated on Monday at the Police Hospital against the COVID-19 disease despite the pain. According to him, the process was “painful” but he had to smile throughout with the cameras on him. Moments before entering his car to leave the inoculation grounds, Information Minister-designate Kojo Oppong Nkrumah asked him: “Your Excellency, you didn’t tell us if it was painful or not.” Bawumia replied: “It was painful” Then after a few seconds, the cheerful-looking vice-president added before getting into the car: “But I was smiling” prompting laughter from Nkrumah and Interior Minister-designate Ambrose Dery. Bawumia was accompanied by his wife Samira, who also took the vaccine publicly to prove its safety. Samira Bawumia takes her COVID-19 vaccine jab “We’re taking the vaccine today to assure the public and Ghanaians in general that it’s safe… and the FDA has really assured us and we’re very confident in the safety of this vaccine. We’re asking all Ghanaians to be cooperative in this process of vaccination. Please don’t listen to the naysayers who want to spread conspiracy theory about this vaccine… this is to protect all of us and our economy, so we move forward. It’s in our collective interest to take this vaccine,” Bawumia told the public prior to taking the vaccine. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his wife Rebecca were the first to take the vaccines at the 37 Military Hospital. Election 2024: Ben Ephson reveals why Bawumia, Alan would need each other
The Vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, could lose the primaries to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2024, except he is supported by Alan John Kyerematen, Ben Ephson has said. Mr Ephson, who is a senior journalist and a pollster with written materials on analysis of elections, made this known on Tuesday, February 3, 2021, on Accra based Angel FM. According to him, the Ashanti Region – the stronghold of the NPP – would vote against Dr Bawumia and the NPP in the presidential election, if he contests and wins the primaries. Likewise, Trade and Industries Minister-nominee will suffer the same fate from people of northern descent, if he becomes the governing party’s candidate for the 2024 presidential contest. Options available The Managing Editor for the Daily Dispatch newspaper is, thus, advising that the NPP stands a better chance of winning in 2024 if it allows either of the two men to run as presidential candidate and the other his running mate. “There is one possibility: Dr Bawumia should run as president supported by Alan Kyerematen, or Kyerematen supported by Dr Bawumia as his Vice-President,” Mr Ephson suggested. Another possibility that might play in Dr Bawumia’s favour, is for the sitting president, Nana Akufo-Addo to abdicate power to Dr Bawumia in his last year of office as President. “President Nana Akufo-Addo should, in his last year of office, resign with sick leave and allow Bawumia to govern the country as President. Dr Bawumia would then make Alan Kyerematen his Vice and take it from there,” he suggested. Mr Ephson’s comments came at the back of some polls he conducted that suggested that some five persons are likely to contest the flagbearer position in the NPP to replace President Akufo-Addo ahead of the 2024 elections. These persons include current Vice president, Dr Bawumia, Mr Kyerematen, Minister-designate for Trade and Industries, Joe Ghartey, former Minister for Railways, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, former Member for Parliament for Offinso North Constituency and Boakye Agyako, former Minister for Energy. Lithur, Ampaw and Amenuvor set for election petition hearing
Lawyer Akoto Ampaw of Akufo-Addo, Prempeh and Co. law firm, has entered appearance for Nana Akufo-Addo in the election petition filed against the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Justin Agbeli Amenuvor of Amenuvor and associates is on the other hand, going to represent the Electoral Commission (EC). The two are expected to square up the legal battle with Tony Lithur of Lithur Brew law firm, who filed the Petition for and on behalf of the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama. With the appearances filed, the case is almost set to begin, after the exchange of the necessary documents, including the list of witnesses to be called. While this is the first time for Justin Amenuvor, Tony Lithur and Akoto Ampaw, were part of the 2013 election petition hearing filed by Akufo-Addo, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the late Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, a former National Chairman of the NPP. In the 2013 case, Mr Lithur was the lead lawyer for then President Mahama, while Mr Ampaw, was part of the Akufo-Addo’s legal team led by Lawyer Philip Addison. Mr TsatsuTsikata, was counsel for the NDC. Unlike the 2013 case which lasted eight months, the Supreme Court in this case, has allotted 42 days to tell Ghanaians, if they must vote again or recognise the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo, as the validly elected President. The Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin Yeboah, is yet to announce the list of Supreme Court judges to sit on the case. Ex-President Mahama, is asking the Supreme Court to compel the EC to conduct a run-off with him and the incumbent, Nana Akufo-Addo, as candidates. He also wants an order of injunction restraining President Akufo-Addo, from holding himself out as President-elect. Mr Mahama, contends that the results declared by the EC in favour of President Akufo-Addo of the NPP were “made arbitrarily, capriciously, and with bias.” The former president, also feels “that the said declaration was made without regard to due process of law.” The EC declared the winner of the presidential election when the Techiman South Constituency results were pending. But the presidential candidate of the NDC argues that if all the votes of Techiman South Constituency were added to his votes, President Akufo-Addo’s votes, would remain at 6,730,413, now yielding 49.625 percent of the votes, while his would increase to 6,342,907, now yielding 46.768 percent. “Therefore, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa’s claim in the purported declaration on 9th December 2020 that adding all the 128,018 votes in the Techiman South Constituency to the votes standing to the name of Petitioner, would not change the results, was clearly wrong,” Mr Mahama said. The petition was filed on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, by Mr Mahama’s lawyers, following the party’s audit of the 2020 Presidential results “and extensive consultations with the National Executive Committee and Council of Elders of the party.” In a statement, the NDC said the petition details “serious violations of the 1992 Constitution by the Electoral Commission and its Chairperson and Returning Officer for the Presidential Election, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa in the conduct of their constitutional and legal responsibilities.” The petition seeks among others, a declaration from the Supreme Court to the effect that, “the purported declaration of the results of the 2020 Presidential Election on the 9th day of December 2020 is unconstitutional, null and void and of no effect whatsoever.” Mr Mahama’s reliefs include (a) “A declaration that Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, Chairperson of [EC] and the Returning Officer for the Presidential Elections held on 7`. December 2020 was in breach of Article 63(3) of the 1992 Constitution in the declaration she made on 9th December 2020 in respect of the Presidential Election that was held on 7th December 1020; Mr Mahama’s reliefs include (a) “A declaration that Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, Chairperson of [EC] and the Returning Officer for the Presidential Elections held on 7`. December 2020 was in breach of Article 63(3) of the 1992 Constitution in the declaration she made on 9th December 2020 in respect of the Presidential Election that was held on 7th December 1020; (b) A declaration that, based on the data contained in the declaration made by Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, Chairperson of [EC] and the Returning Officer for the Presidential Elections held on 7th December 2020, no candidate satisfied the requirement of Article 63(3) of the 1992 Constitution to be declared President-elect. (c) A declaration that the purported declaration made on 9th December 2020 of the results of the Presidential Election by Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, Chairperson of Respondent and the Returning Officer for the Presidential Elections held on 7? December 2020 is unconstitutional, null and void and of no effect whatsoever; (d) An order annulling the Declaration of President-Elect Instrument, 2020 (C.1. 130) dated 9th December 2020, issued under the hand of Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, Chairperson of the [EC] and the Returning Officer for the Presidential Elections held 7? December 2020 and gazetted on 10th December 2020; (e) An order of injunction restraining [President Akufo-Addo] from holding himself out as President-elect; (f) An order of mandatory injunction directing the [EC] to proceed to conduct a second election with Petitioner and [Nana Akufo-Addo] as the candidates as required under Articles 63(4) and (5) of the 1992 Constitution. There’ll be annoying leadership skirmishes in NPP – Gabby predicts
New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko set social media alight as he jokingly, among others, predicted the future of the governing party in 2021. Similar to how some Ghanaian pastors proffer contradictory prophecies, Mr Otchere-Darko in a Facebook post, Friday night, shared a list of events that could unfold in the New Year –including possible leadership crisis that will befall the governing party. Featured second on his list, he predicted: “There will be some really annoying leadership skirmishes within the NPP” and that got many talking as the quest to succeed President Akufo-Addo –who is serving his last term in office –gathers momentum on social media. Already there has been social media campaigns for some individuals including the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who has been tipped by political watchers to succeed his boss when the party holds its presidential primaries in the coming years. Others include Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen, Railways Minister Joe Ghartey amongst others. “None of the above has been revealed to me for you to pray over them for redemption,” Gabby jokingly wrote. “Sorry, if I disappointed you by not adding any deaths. That is too cheap and, in fact, evil. “Well, at least, I came close with No. 11 and that one was very easy,” he said as he appeared to refer to the upcoming funeral rites of ex-President Rawlings who died after a short illness last year. Below is his full post on Facebook: Me too, I can prophesy. Here are my top 12 for 2021: 1. There will be a big leadership fight over control of the NDC, with a faction even calling for Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings to rejoin. 2. There will be some really annoying leadership skirmishes within the NPP. 3. There will be a major minerals discovery in Ghana. Bigger than Jubilee. 4. Tensions between Russia and the USA will heighten, with Putin and Biden at loggerheads. 5. A big politician will be caught in a major sex scandal. 6. Donald Trump will face prosecution. 7. A major drawn-out drama will unfold at Ghana’s Parliament on the night of January 6. One that will keep the entire nation awake all night; a drama like never before. 8. There will be by-elections this year. 9. Arsenal will end the season in top 4 of the EPL. 10. A very big politician will be on trial this year. 11. A very big African statesman will be buried in January. 12. The Supreme Court will rule that the petitioner could not provide any material evidence, in terms of actual numbers, to justify the run-off he is seeking against either Jean Mensa or Akufo-Addo. PS: None of the above has been revealed to me for you to pray over them for redemption. Sorry, if I disappointed you by not adding any deaths. That is too cheap and, in fact, evil. Well, at least, I came close with No. 11 and that one was very easy. Daily Mail Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications
We’re solidly standing behind Bawumia to lead NPP and Ghana – Council of Zongo Chiefs
The Ashanti Regional President of Council of Zongo Chiefs who doubles as the Frafra Chief Naaba Musah Akambounga has charged the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to allow Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the party after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. According to Chief Musah Akambounga, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the right person to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after President Akufo-Addo to secure another victory for the party in 2024. Speaking in an interview with Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Chief Musah Akambounga was optimistic that a Muslim will be elected as President of the Republic of Ghana through New Patriotic Party (NPP). “We strongly believe in Dr Mahamudu Bawumia capabilities to lead NPP and Ghana. It is time NPP leaders allow a Muslim to lead that party. We prefer Dr Bawumia as a flag bearer of NPP than anyone in the NPP” Chief Akambounga said “Dr Bawumia has fought a good fight with President Akufo-Addo and his competence secured victory for NPP in 2016 and 2020. When he (Dr Mahamudu Bawumia) leads the NPP the party will win 2024 general elections and continue to transform Ghana as President Akufo-Addo is doing” He stressed. Chief Akambounga added, “People have the perception that NPP is an anti-Muslim party and for that matter, the party will not allow a Muslim to lead the party. NPP should shame the critics and allow Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to become president to win the heart of majority of Muslims”. “Those who have presidential ambition in NPP should wait for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the party and appoint either an Akan or Akyem as his running mate. Ghana should have a Muslim president and a Vice president from Ashanti Region or Eastern Region” He therefore charged his fellow Muslims, Zongo dwellers and Zongo leaders to disabuse their minds of the perception that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is anti-Muslims and Zongos. enfransmedia Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications
