Mr. Jonathan Asante Okyere, a political science lecturer at Cape Coast University (UCC), has revealed that some aspirants contesting the flag bearership position of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) are insisting for an early conference so as to distance themselves from the dwindling Akufo-Addo government. According to the political Science lecturer, the aspirants are not comfortable with the government’s performance, especially in the management of the economy. Mr. Okyere was reacting to the NPP’s inconclusive National Executives Committee (NEC) meeting held on February 2, 2023, that failed to announce a date for the primaries. He was speaking on the mid-day news on Classfm on Friday, February 2023 He believes the president on the other hand is harbouring the fear he will become a lame-duck president if the party goes for an early congress. “The aspirants have realized that the legacy of the president is nothing to write home about and thus want an early conference to enable the candidate elected to devise his ways of getting Ghanaians to buy into their ideas and programmes. “It is the reason the aspirants want to prosecute their independent campaign not linked to the abysmal performance of the Nana Addo-led administration,” he stated. She said, most of the issues that bothered the region during her tenure were resolved at midnight because that was the only time she planned on how to confront those issues. “You get into an office and there are issues, but that won’t give me a headache. What am thinking about when I go to sleep is how to solve those issues and it excites me that I wake up in the middle of the night because am planning what to do about issues that confront us, I don’t call it problem”. According to Hon. Look, if you don’t sleep in the night, is one of the best times to have brilliant ideas that will spring up because you are in the quiet of your room and nobody is worrying you and then, you had the opportunity to stay awake”. “So, sometime I will see him online and then push. Am sure he will be surprised that at this time of the night, what is she doing online? But he will respond and then, we will go chatting. Most of these project including the Bongo-Balungu Bridge that was how it was achieved. I will send him pictures around 2 AM midnight. So, that is my work life I don’t see it as problems”. Hon. Selling Bawumia to electorates is like convincing people that ‘kokonte’ is fried rice – Barker-Vormawor
FixTheCountry convener, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, noted the difficulty of selling Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as the next president of Ghana. With President Nana Akufo-Addo’s constitutionally allowed two terms coming to an end in 2024, Ghana is expected to elect a new president with the ruling New Patriotic Party and the opposition National Democratic Congress in the lead as the frontrunners to the election. While NDC seems likely to retain its 2020 presidential candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama, the NPP has a poll of potential candidates including the current vice president. But a Facebook post made on Tuesday, January 3, 2022, compared the attempt to sell the vice president to voters to the arduous task of presenting a foreign rice recipe as a local staple food prepared with powdered cassava. “Selling Bawumia to the electorate is like trying to convince people Kokonte is Fried rice,” the activist wrote. On the NPP’s front, the lead contenders for the party’s flagbearership include the vice president, Minister for Trade and Industry John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and the party’s Member of Parliament for Assin North Kennedy Ohene Agyapong among others. On the side of the NDC however, there is growing support for former President Mahama who is regarded as the presumptive flagbearer by some members of the party. GA/FNOQ

A leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party in the United State of America Prince Kamal Gumah has said, he gives all his support to Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia ahead of the party’s upcoming congress. Apexnewsgh.com report According to the former Youth Organizer’s aspirant, “It is true he has been around the Vice President ever since their election. “I am endorsing the Vice President”. He stressedPrince Gumah said, he is a guy that believes in reality and his support for the Vice President has nothing to do with where he is coming from or his religion. Making reference to a comment made by a certain former President who he claimed tag the NPP as a party that does not allow the minority in their own party, Prince Gumah said, …” the opportunity has come for we NPP to tell the entire world that we are open-minded people and we are ready to support anybody that is qualified and can be a President, as NPP we will support the person despite his or her background, religion, or anything and we are at that point. And I can tell you that NPP as a party, more than 80% of the party today think that it is time to kill that so-called Akan’s party once and for all. And then Dr. Bawumia’s father was a Secretary at the Nayiri. So, the father decided to step aside and let Dombo come in as chairman”. “When the northern people were going to merge with the southerners, northern people went with almost 23 seats and Bussia came with only one seat. But as a northerner, we believed that he was qualified and his ideas were good for democracy and he was given the chance”. “As we speak, I have respect for all the aspirants, they are all party members and they have all suffered for the party but amongst all of them, nobody defend and worked for this party in the last 20 years than Dr. Bawumia”.
