Beneficiaries of the Nation’s Builders Corps (NABCo) in the Ashanti Region whose allowances have been in arrears will be paid by Friday, July 9, 2021. This is according to the Ashanti Regional Director for the programme, Dennis Kwakwa, who was responding to the issues of undue delay in allowance payment, on Tuesday. NABCO beneficiaries in the region are yet to be paid allowances for the months of April, May and June. Speaking on Luv FM’s Luv In The Morning with David Akuetteh, Mr Kwakwa explained that the late disbursement of funds from the Ministry of Finance is sometimes to blame for the subsequent interruption of payment. “NaBCo is doing well and I don’t think there’s anything else, apart from the fact that we have some arrears to pay this week and so the state of NaBCo is normal as it has been always. We owe trainees the months of April, May and June. We get money from the Ministry of Finance and, sometimes when there is a delay, it means we get delayed release from the Ministry and so as soon money hits our account, we make the payments to the beneficiaries.” Although beneficiaries in other parts of the country have also complained over delayed stipends, Mr Kwakwa asserted that “NaBCo is probably the best youth-focused programme, that can pay up its beneficiaries but whatever it is, I think government sometimes might get a bit of difficulty and so our expectation has not been, to put our trainees through distress.” NABCo was introduced by the Akufo-Addo administration in May 2018 as one of the interventions to address graduate unemployment, by engaging the raw talents of unemployed graduates and equipping them with skills through a process of value addition and training. More than 100,000 graduates have been involved under the seven modules; namely, Civic Ghana Feed Ghana, Educate Ghana, Heal Ghana, Revenue Ghana, and Digitize Ghana and Enterprise Ghana. The placement in the NaBCo lasts for a period of three years, with beneficiaries enjoying a stipend of Gh¢700 every month. The District Coordinator and RTCs for Birim Central in the Eastern Region were honored by the appreciative hands of some trainees on the 5th of April, 2021. This marks about the fourth time such commendable act has been displayed by trainees who have acknowledged the effort of their District Coordinators and RTCs on the NABCO journey. A set of four (4) beautifully crafted citations were respectively presented to the Birim Central District Coordinator in the person of Dennis Obeng Agyei and the RTCs; Enoch Nana Yaw Antwi, Agnes Asante, and Kelvin Timitey. We have been signalled that trainees in other Districts have commenced processes to follow the appreciation trend. *NABTAG deems these voluntary exercises plausible on the back of the need to recognize the hard work of all who have relentlessly coordinated in the affairs of NABCO. The National President of NABTAG, Dennis Opoku Katakyie, and some other officials were invited to grace the occasion. Let me take this opportunity to reassure NABCO trainees that the government has not relented in its effort in investing in the youth through job creation. Consequently, the ongoing Career Pathway exercise will soon bring forth the expected result. Disregard rumours being broadcasted from an unknown source that the three-year contract will be renewed this year, and that the CPTP is only a camouflage. Stakeholders have genuine concern to see to it that the ultimate goal of sustainable jobs is arrived at. Mr Seth Cudjoe, the Sunyani Municipal Coordinator of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) has announced that Government will collaborate with its Model Implementing Partners (MIPs) to absorb all trainees on the NABCO programme for permanent jobs. He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani that the MIPs would select only hardworking and competent trainees for permanent employment at their various institutions and organizations they were attached to during their three years capacity building training. He expressed worry that some of the NABCO trainees refused to fill the career pathway online registration. Mr Cudjoe said about 30 trainees in the Municipality who failed to do the online registration upon several prompts by the system were of indication that they have been self exited from NABCO.
