NDC: ‘I stand a better chance than John Mahama’, ‘his name is sullied with corruption’– Kojo Bonsu

The former NDC Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu said for now he stands a better chance in leading NDC to victory in 2024 than former President John Dramani Mahama because of the numerous corruption and women affair tag against him. According to Mr. Bonsu, the former President has become unattractive to the floating voter. He made the pronouncement during an interview on Citi TV Lifestyle Show monitored by Apexnewsgh.com  Mr. Bonsu stated that he is contesting because “There is a vacancy and that is why we are all contesting the seat”, he said, adding: “It is democracy and our party believes in democracy, so, we don’t push people to take over. We don’t want that”. “So, if one is given the chance and he wins it, he will do the job. So, it is fair we all do it”, he noted. “One other reason I am contesting is not that I hate President Mahama. No. What has he done to me?”, he asked. “The problem is that people have lied a lot in this country about John Mahama. They put corruption on him”, Mr. Bonsu said. “They have said a lot of things against him that you can’t even take it off. NDC has the numbers in terms of votes but NPP has really soiled John Mahama that I feel so sad.” According to him, the NDC, as a party, has not helped the situation. “We should have redeemed him Mahama long ago but he doesn’t have a chance now”, he pointed. “Let’s bring in a fresh person so that the swing voters wouldn’t have anything to say against President Mahama”. He stressed, “I stand a better chance than Mahama because I have not been soiled. So, that is where I come in”. “It’s so sad”, he bemoaned, pointing out: “He Mr. Mahama is a great gentleman, speaks very well, very affable but he has been put in the mud so much”. “They have tagged him with corruption, women’s affairs and we the NDC have not been able to defend it and get him out of it”, he stated. He believes, “if the party had corrected this, we wouldn’t have come to this level”.  “If we want to win the 2024 elections, I think let’s bring someone like me”, he appealed. “I am eligible to do it. It’s not an issue of fighting Mahama, insulting the former President or doing anything but the situation we find ourselves in, let’s try someone new and see if it will work.” He said.  Mr. Kojo Bonsu is a Ghanaian businessman, sports administrator and politician, who served as the Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly from 2013 to 2016. President Akufo-Addo has the shortest convoy in our history’–Pius Enam Hadzide

The former Deputy Information Minister and now the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the National Youth Authority (NYA) Pius Enam Hadzide is of the strong view that the administration of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) led Akufo-Addo government has enjoyed the shortest convoy in the history of the Republic of Ghana. Apexnewsgh.com report The NYA CEO made the revelation on the TV3 New Day programme monitored keenly by Apexnewsgh.com when a Deputy Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edem Agbana advised that government needs to cut down costs by reducing the number of convoys used by the President. Meanwhile, according to Mr. Hadzide who disagrees with Mr. Agbana position, “President Convoys are not long, he has the shortest convoy in our history”. He insisted that “What happens is that when the President is traveling, along the line many people join. So, they are not part of the President convoy”. He maintained Asking about how many convoy used by the President, Mr. Pius said he cannot disclose it but he is well aware of the number of conveys that follow the President as a former Deputy Information Minister. Withdrawal of Bagbin’s military politically motivated–Minority

The minority in parliament has said the action of the military high command in connection to the withdrawal of the Speaker of Parliament’s military security detail is a politically motivated and calculated one to diminish the speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin confidence in his bid to impartially and independently steer the affairs of the legislative arm of government. The minority’s position came after the military high command announced the withdrawal of the military protection of the Speaker. According to the military command, the soldiers assigned to the Speaker did not follow the proper procedure. Below is the full minority statement: STATEMENT BY THE PARLIAMENTARY CAUCUS OF THE NDC ON THE WITHDRAWAL OF THE MILITARY SECURITY DETAIL OF THE SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT, RT. HON ALBAN BAGBIN BY THE NANA AKUFO ADDO LED GOVERNMENT.                              The Minority in Parliament is saddened and strongly denounce the withdrawal by President Akufo-Addo’s government of the military detail attached to the office of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Alban Bagbin with effect from the 14th January 2022. It is pertinent to note that the only reason given for the shameful withdrawal of Mr. Speaker’s security detail is that the attachment was done without following the proper procedure. Curiously, the government fails and/ or omits to spell out the procedure for the attachment of military personnel to high profile personalities such as the speaker of Parliament. If the action of the military high command is in good faith, the irregularity in relation to the attachment could be rectified without necessarily having to withdraw the personnel. The only logical conclusion a reasonable mind would draw with respect to the failure of government to indicate the nature of the procedure supposedly breached by Mr Speaker’s outfit is that proper procedure was followed for which reason the military high command had no difficulty attaching the military personnel in question to his office. Indeed, the Clerk to Parliament on the 21st January 2021 did write to the chief of staff of the Armed Forces and duly requested the attachment of the military personnel in question. At this point, the chief of staff did not detect any procedural irregularities in relation to Mr Speaker’s request. However, one year on the same chief of staff who on behalf of the military high command granted the request now wants Ghanaians to believe that he acted in error in the first instance? The posturing of the chief of staff in this regard is, to say the least, preposterous. The minority states further without any equivocation that the attachment of military personnel to the office of the speaker is not an isolated incident at all. For instance, members of the executive branch of government other than the president and Vice President who are below the speaker of Parliament in terms of status and rank as provided for in the constitution have at various times had soldiers attached to their offices. A notable example is the current Attorney General and Minister for Justice who, even as deputy Attorney General had a soldier for his bodyguard. Another example of a state official below the speaker in terms of status and rank who roams town with military protection is the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, madam Jean Mensa. Flowing from the above, the minority is certain that the action of the military high command relative to the withdrawal of Mr Speaker’s security detail is politically motivated and calculated to diminish his confidence in his bid to impartially and independently steer the affairs of the legislative arm of government. In the circumstances, the minority shall hold the government of President Akufo-Addo responsible should the security of Rt. Hon Alban Bagbin, the speaker of Parliament be compromised in any way. We further call for the immediate withdrawal of the letter with ref no: GH/ 1002/ 01/ COS written on behalf of the armed forces by the chief of staff and purporting to withdraw the military personnel attached to Mr Speaker’s office. Signed: Minority leader Hon Haruna Iddrisu.

I don’t understand why every 4 years we have to replace John Mahama vehicle–Pius Hadzide

Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA) Pius Hadzide has said, another area government can look at as far as slashing expenditure is concerned is by putting a stop to the replacement of vehicles belonging to the former President John Mahama and John Kufuor every 4 years. Apexnewsgh.com report The former Deputy Information Minister who now occupy the National Youth Authority (NYA) Chief Executive Officer Position made the pronouncement on Tv3 monitored by Apexnewsgh.com Responding to the call by NPP Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Mr. Patrick Yaw Boamah, who holds the view that the government of Ghana has a responsibility to cut down on its expenditure and be transparent to the people if they want the people to pay more taxes. Mr. Hadzide Said: “The MP is an NPP MP and that is our attitude. We mean well for this country, we are not the NDC MPs who will say that Party first before Ghanaians”. “I agree, there many areas we can look at because I don’t understand why every 4 years we have to replace John Mahama vehicle, I don’t understand why we should do that for Mr. Kufuor and Mr. Mahama I don’t understand why we should don’t that every 4 years. Read: NDC bites government deep in their recent press conference

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described the reversal of benchmark value discounts as recklessness and punishment for Ghanaians According to the NDC, Ghanaians have had enough of the deception and callousness of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government. They said: “The NDC holds the view, that this is not the time for more taxes and draconian revenue measures such as the reversal of benchmark value discounts. We share in the view espoused by GUTA that the GRA withdraws the statement announcing this measure which will only go a long way to stifle the already burdened businesses in the country”. Below is the full statement: PRESS STATEMENT 5th January, 2022 INSENSITIVE AKUFO-ADDO/BAWUMIA GOVERNMENT CONTINUES TO PUNISH GHANAIANS FOR THEIR ECONOMIC MISMANAGEMENT AND RECKLESSNESS AS THEY REVERSE DISCOUNTS ON BENCHMARK VALUES OF 44 CATEGORIES OF IMPORTED GOODS. Good afternoon distinguished ladies and gentlemen of the media. On behalf of the National Democratic Congress, I thank you for honoring our invitation at such short notice and welcome you to the National Headquarters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for this all-important press conference. Before we proceed further and given the fact that this presser is the first for the year 2022, I wish to on behalf of the leadership of the NDC extend to you, our friends from the media best compliments of the season and wish all those following this event across the length and breadth of Ghana, a very fruitful and prosperous new year. “Yema mo nyinaa afehyiapa”.   Distinguished friends from the media, the NDC is utterly appalled by the decision of the insensitive Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government to reverse benchmark value discounts on selected imported goods, effective yesterday, 4th January, 2022. The reversal of benchmark value discounts is a draconian policy which will adversely affect the living conditions of all us irrespective of our social backgrounds and political affiliations.   It will be recalled that sometime in April 2019, government through Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced a 30% and 50% discount on the benchmark values of imported vehicles and general goods respectively. Sadly but unsurprisingly, government has decided to scrap these discounts on 44 categories of imported goods.   This terrible decision comes at a time when the national currency is depreciating and world commodity prices are increasing at an alarming rate, with freight charges and port handling charges being extremely high. More importantly, the callous decision by government to reverse benchmark value discounts comes at a time Ghanaian businesses, startups, parents and households are reeling under a yoke of excessive taxation, persistent increases in fuel prices and high cost of living never before witnessed in the anals of our country.   Ladies and gentlemen, what the decision to reverse benchmark value discounts effectively means is that, prices of the affected items such as; vehicles and spare parts, machinery, equipment and plants, aluminum finished products (roofing sheets), portland cement, cement paper bags, and clinker, poultry, animal products (meat), fish, rice, sugar, pasta, spaghetti, noodles and macaroni, pharmaceuticals (including drugs such as paracetamol, condoms etc.), toilet paper, facial tissue and towel, chocolate, toffees and chewing gum, palm oil (crude and refined oils), mosquito coils, ceramic tiles, tile cement, machetes, plastics, textile and textile articles, fruit juices, tomato paste and ketchup, furniture and parts, boxes of paper and paperboard cases of corrugated paper, iron steel bars, toilet soap and laundry bar soap, detergents washing powder, lubricating oil, soft drinks and carbonated drinks, biscuits/wafers, among others; will all go up by 30%- 50% in the coming days.   These increases which will eventually be passed on to Ghanaians will further escalate prices of general goods and services in the country and exacerbate the severe hardships Ghanaians are already reeling under. This will ultimately increase the cost of doing business in the country, negatively affect turnover of businesses and the volume of trade in the country, and lead to the collapse of many businesses and jobs.   In fact, the bitter reality is that, given the many draconian taxes that have been introduced by the callous Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government since April 2019 and the continuous depreciation of the Ghana Cedi which is already eroding profit margins and the capital of businesses, importers and Ghanaians in general will be worse off as a result of this decision. In short, import duties will be far higher than they were before April 2019 when the benchmark value discounts were introduced, in view of the continuous free fall of the Cedi and the raft of new crippling tax measures that government has introduced since April 2019.   Ladies and gentlemen, we wish to make the point, that this catastrophic decision has been occasioned by the self-inflicted economic malaise we presently find ourselves in, with our economy in tatters and government simply unable to find money to do anything. After five (5) years of economic mismanagement and reckless election-driven spending, which have taken the country back to its HIPC days, the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government has decided to punish the already-burdened Ghanaian people with more hardships for their own recklessness and mismanagement. This is why all manner of crippling taxes and killer revenue measures such as the reversal of benchmark value discounts are now being imposed on Ghanaians to shore up government’s revenue just to create an artificial picture of a sound economy in order to convince the investor community on more and more borrowing.   We in the NDC are left in no doubt whatsoever that this latest decision by Government to reverse discounts on benchmark values of imported goods, further accentuates Dr. Bawumia’s place as the most deceitful Politician in Ghana’s history. It will be recalled that sometime in the year 2019, Dr. Bawumia was all over the place pontificating that Ghana’s Ports were one of the most expensive in the sub-region and that government had decided to introduce discounted benchmark values in order to facilitate more trade volumes, make our ports more competitive, reduce smuggling and increase government revenues from the Ports.   Friends, the question that ought to

NPP will win, even if elections were to be conducted today–Obiri Boahen

The National Deputy Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Obiri Boahen has said, if the election were to be conducted today, NPP will win hands down. Apexnewsgh.com report Speaking to Apexnewsgh.com in an exclusive interview a day after the party annual delegates conference in Kumasi, Mr. Obiri Boahen said: “It is the good people who are going to determine, I should not underrate or insult the intelligence of the every Ghanaian, I must appreciate the sentiment and intelligent of every Ghanaian who is eligible to vote and I agree that even though there are some hitches of difficulties, [the NPP will win]. “Sometimes, I boost into laughter when I hear these our NDC boys talking. I believe they are talking because there is a need for them just to talk, that’s all. He challenged the opposition National Democratic Congress to mention at least one social intervention they have introduced as a social democrat. “Tell me any social intervention policy the NDC have introduced since we started with this Republic? Just tell me one, they called themselves social democrats. “Is an undeniable fact that when even the NPP introduce FSHS, NDC opposed it. Is that not the case? “The creation of regions, NDC boycotted it. “Apart from the decision to increase the MPs allowances, tell what the NDC has not opposed. NDC Communicator who allegedly defrauded O.A boss with Mahama’s name arrested

Police in the Ashanti Region has confirmed the arrest of one Gabriel Aga, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications team in Kumasi. The suspect was arrested over the weekend at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi during the Akwasidae Festival celebration in an alleged attempt to defraud the Chief Executive Officer  of O.A Transport, Opoku Agyemang. Narrating the incident, Starr News  source said the suspect had already taken Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc50,000.00) and wanted an additional One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedies (Ghc100,000.00) from the O.A CEO. The suspect had informed the businessman on phone that he was former President John Mahama and needed some cash for medical care abroad. The businessman released the money to the suspect because he said former President Mahama sent him for the cash on his behalf. After the money was released, he never heard from the suspect again. Months later, he received a call again from the suspect pretending he is former President and requested an additional one hundred thousand Ghana cedis. According to O.A boss, the suspect promised to make him a big businessman if the NDC wins the 2024 elections. The businessman requested they meet at the  Akwasidae Festival celebration for the money. When they met at Manhyia Palace, the businessman insisted on meeting the former President himself but this was unsuccessful leading to the arrest. Tell us why no single person from Upper East is a cabinet Minister—Navrongo MP Sampson Tangombu Chiragia Navrongo MP and Upper East Regional Minister

Tell us why no single person from Upper East is a cabinet Minister—Navrongo MP

The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central Constituency Mr. Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has questioned the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu why out of 19 to 21 cabinet Ministers in Akufo-Addo’s administration no single person is representing the people of Upper East –Apexnewsgh.com Report According to Mr. Tangombu Chiragia: “This clearly shows that his none performing President who does not see Upper East Region as part of Ghana”. His question came after the regional minister had responded to his position on the 2022 budget where he complained that the budget could not even capture the controversial Upper East airport, which he believes is inconveniencing the people of the region and more especially he as a parliamentarian who always love to travel home every weekend. According to the Regional Minister in his response: “If an MP is in Accra, saying he wants to come home every weekend to see his constituents but because there is no airport he cannot come, I don’t think we should even vote for such Member of Parliament. However, the response by the Upper East Regional Minister has triggered the Navrongo Central Constituency legislator to throw another heavy wet question to the father of the region. “Why is it that we have almost 19 to 21 cabinet ministers and we have 16 regions, why is it that Upper East Region is not having even a cabinet minister? We don’t have a cabinet minister in Nana Addo’s government and he doesn’t regard us”. Navrongo MP asked “So, for that matter, who is going to carry issues across? He is the Regional Minister, his constituency is the region, my constituency is Navrongo Central, and his party is in power, and is their responsibility to do something for us, and he should not be dodging his responsibilities. “The last time, that was the same mistake he made, he said there were going to be airport located where? NO, he talked about the aerodrome which he said going to in Navrongo, that one is already known. What we are saying is that, before you can talk about the airport, where are you locating it? Where are you building it? You have not made the land preparation and you have 3 years to go and you are telling us you are going to get two airports when? We need the airport now. He insisted “Not about me coming home, I come home alright but what am saying is that I have business in Accra and definitely, I will close some times and run into the night. I can come and land in Tamale sometime with the last flight. If there were to be an airport in Upper East Region when i land i can even take a bicycle and go”. He explained “But here is the situation, how can you land in Tamale around 6:30 to 7:00 Pm then drive 3 to 4 hours before you get home? Then, that’s even better. When you are going back to Parliament and you want to go with last flight and you are leaving Upper East, it means you have to leave home around 4:00 Pm and if you are not lucky and get a breakdown on the road, what do you do? He shouldn’t run away from his responsibility. He knows very well I don’t have access to his Oldman who is there wasting our time, even he himself doesn’t have access to his old because he goes there, he can only talk to the Chief of Staff and comeback. He is not even regarded, he is only here to represent something. If he claimed he is a darling boy to the President he should make him a cabinet minister so that he can talk for Upper East. “Upper East is the only region we have, no one should be joking with the region that is our country and our capital, we come from there and we can never change”. “He should lead a legacy so that tomorrow, he can say he was a minister he was able to bring us airport. We don’t care where the airport is located, they can send it to Fumbisi, and they can send it to even Pwalungu it doesn’t matter anymore. ‘We’re suffering, our children’re suffering’: Jobless Ashanti NPP members threaten demo

Several aggrieved members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region belonging to a coalition called NPP Identifiable Groups, an amalgam of several groups, have threatened to demonstrate against the party at the weekend during its National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, 18 December 2021. The angry groups say their members have suffered throughout the Akufo-Addo administration despite having campaigned and worked toward the two victories of the president. The coalition, which includes groups such as Elephant Movement, Elephant Soldiers, NPP Vibrant Group, Bantama NPP Florida Fun Group, among others, said the Akufo-Addo government has refused to employ them and their relatives in the various government institutions despite a promise to do so. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, 15 December 2021, the convener of the groups, Mr Emmanuel Ampiah Mensah, said they have channelled their grievances to the necessary authorities but to no avail. Mr Ampiah, on behalf of the groups, has given the leadership of the party a three-day ultimatum to call them to a meeting and find jobs for them else they will carry out their threat on Saturday. “We have done a lot for this party and we are expecting something meaningful but we are not seeing anything. We have our colleagues who are not working, up to date, as I’m talking, a lot of people have gotten a lot of jobs but now, as I’m talking, none of us has received any contract”, he told regional correspondent Elisha Adarkwa. He added: “I want to region to come and meet us so that we will express our problem to them”, stressing: “We are lacking jobs. Our kids are suffering. We are suffering”. “We want them to come to our aid”, he insisted. “So, we are giving them three days; today is Wednesday, we are waiting till Friday, if we don’t hear anything from the regional executives, we’ll advise ourselves”, he threatened. —Classfm Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your adverts and credible news publications.
