Dr Kwabena Duffuor, a flagbearer hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has described the accusation of him being used by the governing NPP as “wicked” and “unfair”, Dr. Duffuor, who has made his presidential ambitions public, told his TV station, GHOne, in an interview on Monday, 6 December 2021 monitored by Apexnewsgh.com that, those claims are just wicked and I pray that those people will put their thinking caps on”. “It is very unfair”, he lamented. He then asked: “Who will serve a country for four years and will not accept anything: no salary, no allowances, no ex gratia?” “Why would I be a mole when money is not my problem”, he asked. “I felt the time was not right when Rawlings called on me to contest”, he explained. According to him, the late ex-president, the former Finance Minister revealed, “Said he was going to lead my campaign himself but I didn’t”. “The only reason I’m doing so now is because I think the party can still do better and it must involve everyone”, he added. “Why should age matter?” he asked “The focus should be on what the person brings to the fore and what they are capable of delivering when given the job and my track record proves what I can do in almost every sphere of the economy”, he noted. “My record and the work we are capable of doing should be the driver of the conversation not age”, he said. The Volta Regional Youth Wing of NDC Condemns Barbaric and Ethnocentric Comments of …
The Volta Regional Youth Wing of NDC Condemns Barbaric and Ethnocentric Comments of Mathew Opoku Prempreh Against Victims of Tidal waves in Keta The Volta Regional Youth wing of the NDC have noticed with grave concern and worry, a video tape circulating on social media in which the Minister of Energy and MP for Manhyia South, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, a.k.a. Napo was heard making unsavory and senseless comments to the effect that, he will mobilise Kumasi residents to demonstrate against the government, should the finance minister heed to opposition demands to make provisions in the government 2022 budget to alleviate perennial suffering caused by tidal waves on the Eastern Coast of Ghana. NAPO made the irresponsible and condemnable comments following the public outcry over government’s defeaning silence and lack of action that greeted destruction caused by tidal waves to communities such as Anloga, Tegbi, Amutsinu, Agavedzi, Blekusu, Kedzi, Azizadzi, Adina and Denu-Aflao located in the Ketu South, Keta and Anlo Constituencies of the Volta Region. According to this apology of a Minister, he could not understand why his government should make provisions for Keta tidal wave victims on the Eastern Coast of Ghana when that is the stronghold of the NDC! This clearly tell us that, the provision of zero funds in the 2022 budget for the tidal waves victims and same rejected by Parliamnent and deliberate neglect of the Volta region in the NPP government’s development plans was a deliberate discriminatory act. It is crystal clear to us that NPP and it’s leaders do not consider Volta region as part of Ghana hence their actions. We must put on record that whatever discriminative and intimidative war the NPP wishes to wage against the people of the Volta Region, they are bound to fail. We would flourish! NAPO and his appointing authorities should note that: The Volta Region remains an inseparable part of Ghana by law and by origination. 2. The good people of the Volta Region pay tax to government and not opposition parties based in their strongholds. 3. The Volta Region contributes significantly to the country’s GDP. In fact, the region have made and continue to make massive contributions to the development of this country in the fields of human capital development, policy formulation, security, governance, agriculture, mining, legal, and international image build up of Ghana, and we cannot be taken for granted by a grossly corrupt, tribal and insensitive Npp government and its functionaries with bloated ego and exaggerated opinions of themselves. 4. The Region must be accorded its fair share of the national cake including the state’s timely response to debilitating tidal waves that is fast tearing our communities apart. 5. What NAPO should note is that, the people of the Volta /Oti regions which remains the stronghold of the NDC did not complain or demonstrate against the NDC government when President Mahama was spending hundreds of millions of dollars on monumental projects in Ashanti like Kejetia market, Afari military hospital etc. 6. Napo and his cohorts should be reminded that it was the NDC founded by a visionary JJ Rawlings that is responsible for all meaningful infrastructure and developmental projects Ashanti region can boast of throughout the history of the fourth Republic. 7. It must also be noted by the NPP and it’s leaders that we have had enough of their disrespectful and insulting acts and comments against the Chiefs and people of the Volta region including disenfranchising the people of SALL from having a representation in Parliament which was the epic of impunity, lawlessness and sheer disregard for the constitution and dues process under this despotic regime. 8. We call on NAPO to retract his vile, insensitive and ethnocentric comments and render an unqualified apology to the people of the Volta region and Ghana for that matter. In conclusion, we wish to assure the Minority group in Parliament that, we have taken notice of their genuine efforts aimed at fighting for the interest of the Ghanaian people including the victims of tidal waves in the volta region by insisting that our resources be judiciously applied to serve the best interest of Ghanaians and obnoxious taxes like e-levy should be opposed to the last drop of our blood. We are behind you and we urge you to push harder to be a credible voice to the voiceless. Treat Clement Apaak’s comment as a pure lie, no one has asked him not to approve the 2022 budget—Builsa South DCE
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Builsa Kwaeme Daniel Gariba has refuted what he described as a ‘pure lie’ claim chanting by Dr. Clement Abasinaab Apaak Member of Parliament for Builsa South. Apexnewsgh.com According to Clement Abasinaab Apaak, his constituents have instructed him to vote against the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy proposal or risk not coming back home. A warning he said he received with much seriousness “My constituents have told me that should I make the mistake of voting in favor of this 2022 budget I should remain in Accra. “I will not remain in Accra, they sent me here to work on their behalf. Their instructions are very clear and so the position is clear. We represent our people and we are going to do what they want,” Clement Apaak said on the floor of parliament on Thursday during a debate of the 2022 budget. Meanwhile, the Builsa South District Chief Executive Daniel Gariba has called on Ghanaians to disregard the claims made by the MP. He described Dr. Apaak’s comments as a ‘pure lie’ “He is not even in the constituency and I am there with the people. You cannot read a budget and want to get everybody to agree with every sentence, every phrase. You would definitely have dissenting opinions. But largely, what the majority says is what to look at”. “The last time my MP was in the constituency is more than 2weeks, he was there before the budget was read, so I don’t know when he came back to receive views of the people. He has not organized one single meeting where he has had an engagement with the people in the constituency. So, I don’t know where he is getting that information from”. “So, as far as am concerned, is not true, he has not had any meeting anywhere where constituents have told him not to come back home if he approves the budget. It is his personal view he is expressing and which is not too different from the position taken by his NDC. I am a constituent of his and am not sure I have told him not to come home if he approves the budget, I also have people around me who are his constituents who have not say so”. NDC will never scrap E- Levy when they returns to power after 60 years–John Boadu
John Boadu, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is confident that the Electronic Transactions Levy is going to be a done deal. He said just like the Communications Service Tax, popularly known as Talk Tax, innovative ways will be found in making deductions for the e-levy without unduly disadvantaging Ghanaians. Mr. Boadu the pronouncement in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, November 25, when addressing news men. “When Talk Tax came, we were all paying but we didn’t notice,” he said in local language Twi. “That’s a very innovative way of raising revenue [that] when the NDC came back to power in 2009, they did not remove the Talk Tax. “So, I believe may be in future about 60 years time when the NDC returns, they will never scrap the e-levy. They will embrace it. They will be so happy. The only difference is that they cannot think like we do.” Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Can JM’s credentials measure up to that of Dr. Duffuor?–NDC Dela Coffie questioned
Dela Coffie writes: It’s time for the NDC to rethink and reshape perceptions I’ve had a pretty interesting night online, just checking out reactions on the poster released for Dr. Kwabena Duffuor’s intended “GHANAIAN DREAM” economic lecture under the auspices of the Institute of Fiscal Studies on the 29th of November 2021. One of the more vociferous Mahama frontmen, showed himself in his true colours by questioning Dr. Duffuor’s competence. He claims Dr. Duffuor oversaw the mismanagement of depositors funds leading to the collapse of Unibank. Another comment – from a moderate this time – calls Duffuor the foulest of expletives and claims he’s too old to lead the party like the NDC. Oh yes, the cult followers of Mahama have ramped up their attacks on Dr. Duffuor simply because he has chosen to organise a lecture and to speak to matters of national concerns. Ridiculous spectacle, huh? Frankly, I’m enjoying the snarling from these guys who just can’t take the beating Dr. Duffuor’s recent outings are inflicting upon their sense of entitlement and preening self-regard. Indeed, I’m getting the distinct impression that the imminent announcement by Dr. Duffuor of his presidential bid is driving the Mahama camp over the edge -He’s officially not in any contest and yet his public appearances are causing fear and panic among the followers of Mahama. These guys appear convinced of Dr. Duffuor’s value in their own commentaries but they are not smart enough to realise that the whole Unibank saga was a political witch hunt which is not even flying in court of law. That leads to the threshold question of why these Mahama henchmen are so coy and reticent about a man armed with just good intentions, and have answers capable of remedying a damnable NDC that has almost lost its bearing under Mahama? Again, what makes them think they can take down a man whose credentials are as tall as a giant? I mean, in comparative terms, can JM’s credentials measure up to that of Dr. Duffuor? Regarding the state of NDC, how can the opposition to Duffuor say he is too old and can’t win, when a young and agile Mahama has lost two general elections? Isn’t it as obvious to these guys as it is to me that Mahama has failed to prove himself as a leader, and that he’s out of the question and reckoning for the presidency? The man has been president, and he led the NDC from government into opposition. Does he have any redeeming qualities to offer anything new? No, I cannot think of anything. Which is why it’s of no use sidetracking some of the best brains in the NDC all in an attempt to impose Mahama on the party. My point is, it’s all very well saying Duffuor is old and will probably not win against Mahama, maybe he will not, but what is certain is that those seeking to oppose his presidential bid have actually lost two elections on the trot and show no signs of improving, so why not take a gamble and try something different? The NDC members who three years from now would be licking their wounds and asking themselves “what went wrong” must instead ask themselves that question now while there’s still some time to do something about it. So clearly, for the good of the NDC, those elements obstructing Dr Duffuor should decide whether they want to continue with the sniping, the bitching and quibbling over minutiae – which seems to be their favourite pastime. Admittedly, there is a serious problem within the NDC. If you were being kind, you would call it blind unquestioning loyalty or, kinder still, the ostrich mentality. Those of us who aren’t sucked in by the cult of Mahama need to do all we can to fight it. And in all this, I think an element of waking up and smelling the coffee would appear to be in order for those who ought to know better. In the meantime, I’m hanging on to the slim hope that when, eventually, people wake up to the grim reality of the NDC situation, it won’t be late in the day. We can’t be faced with an open goal and yet be doing everything possible to score an own goal. I shall be back. Minority claiming they won’t approve 2022 budget, is a demonstration of Immaturity—Nana Obiri Boahen
The National Deputy Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Obiri Boahen has described Minority protest of not going to approve the 2022 budget read by the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as a ‘demonstration of Immaturity’. According to the private legal practitioner, is pre-mature for the minority to say they won’t approve the budget when they have not discussed and debated it on the floor of parliament. Lawyer Obiri Boahen was speaking to Apexnews Ghana “Is Pre-mature for them to be talking like that, with due respect is a demonstration of immaturity. I am saying this because, a budget has been read and people are making their own interpretation and all sort of things. The parliament is an august body, the government cannot implement the contents of the provisions of the budget without parliamentary approval. So, why don’t you wait and listen, discuss and debate and interrogate it dispassionately and not from a partisan camp and then arrive at a conclusion”. He said “So, what message are you sending as Parliamentarians? They should all live without the entrenched partisan camp. They should think of the welfare of Ghana”. Speaker is a talkative–John Boadu claims
John Boadu, General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has thrown a verbal attack on Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Bagbin Ghana Speaker of Parliament. He said his new comments about having the power to remove President Akufo-Addo are clear signs that he talks anyhow. Mr. Boadu who was speaking to party members in Mankessim, said it is obvious that Mr. Bagbin is dazed by his current status because he never dreamt of becoming the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament throughout his political career. “The Speaker talks anyhow, now he even says he can remove the president but the president cannot remove him. He has forgotten that even if the president will be impeached he as a Speaker doesn’t have a vote but he is just boasting. “I don’t know what is wrong with him, he has inferiority complex, he is overwhelmed by his current status so sometimes he says things that do not make sense but we have to indulge him,” Mr. Boadu stated. Mr. Boadu came as a response to the Speaker’s recent pronounce that the law gives Parliament the powers to remove a president but does not give the same powers to a president to be able to remove a Speaker of Parliament. NDC Youth Wing Rejects 2022 Budget
To The Ghanaian Youth, Times are really hard, especially for the Youth; there is no better way to put it. The 2022 budget presented by the Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta earlier this week failed to address some of the existential threat facing young people and our determination to rise up from poverty through hard work and enterprise. Like many of you, we are alarmed and disappointed that such a heartless budget will be presented by the New Patriotic Party government, after all preparing a budget is one of the most basic responsibilities of any government. But it appears no innovative and critical thinking went into the preparation of this budget, thus falling short of addressing our needs as a people. More importantly, for the Youth of Ghana, this budget was far from our reality, our hopes and aspirations. Reading the entire document, one cannot ignore the singular theme that reflects in those hurriedly written lines; the hardheaded and irresponsible posture to the plight of the Ghanaian people. It is not surprising how Ghanaians have responded to the thoughtless budget presented for the 2022 fiscal year, and rightly so because the scourge of this budget will be borne by the people. Everywhere, when budgets are presented, it inspires hope amongst the masses, as it offers government’s thoughtful and considerate blueprint to alleviate the suffering of the people and improve on the socio economic wellbeing of the masses. What our finance minister presented is far from that and a direct ‘insult’ to the Ghanaian people especially our industrious young people. To our young people, you are right to be disappointed in the budget presented for the FY2022 as it does not include a comprehensive plan to create jobs for the many young people out of school without jobs, vocational or professional skills in this hardened economy. In the absence of creating jobs and equipping you with the right skills to be employable, this administration must not look to further burden you with more inconsiderate policies that will make life more unbearable for us. Government has no justification whatsoever on the position it has taken. We empathize with you and oppose vehemently these new taxes and increases in some levies as well government fees. We recognize that Majority of entrepreneurs who rely on electronic payments to run their businesses are young people and this draconian tax will adversely affect you. Thus the proposed 1.75% levy on electronic payments will be counter productive. We are sorry that this government, under the guise of widening the tax bracket is oblivious to our plight as young people and has resorted to taxing every service that makes our lives easier. Rest assure that we stand with you on this, we will oppose this! While this government has failed you, we ask that you do not give up especially on your dreams even in these hard times. We have requested through Leadership that the Minority Group in Parliament works to reject the budget in its current form. Every NDC MP will be committed to this course earnestly. Any other outcome will be ab inconvenienti. In the spirit of camaraderie, we will also be presenting a petition to parliament on why the Youth of Ghana is against the 2022 budget. It is our firm belief that everyone, on both sides of the House must work together to reject this budget as it is antagonistic to the Youth of Ghana. There is the need to increase government’s revenue but it is a lame approach to tax almost every service and product that is used by young people to achieve that. Government must find a way to patch up the revenue loopholes and come up with an innovative way of effectively collecting taxes. It is their responsibility to implement the right stop-gap measures and comprehensive plan to generate more revenue rather than resort to a tax driven agenda to exploit our already drained pockets. While we wait and observe what will be the Legislature’s position on this budget, government must focus on efficiently generating revenue by considering innovative schemes to ensure tax is collected effectively and accounted for, while creating jobs and opportunities for young people. As young people, it is imperative that our capacity, and human potential is developed and harnessed properly; government must be held accountable if it cannot do this simple thing. What we want as young people is a government that is considerate of our plights and will work hard to ensure our lives are better and not the opposite as we see with this insensitive government. To all young people , we encourage you to summon your political courage and add your voice to this advocacy. This budget is dangerous to our progress and detrimental to our hopes and aspirations. It will be unreasonable and insensitive on my part to say that all is rosy– NPP National Deputy Secretary
The National Deputy Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Obiri Boahen has confessed that all is not rosy in the country. Apexnewsgh.com reports According to Mr. Obiri Boahen who spoke to Apexnewsgh.com on the increasing rate of food commodities and how difficult it has become for Ghanaians to raise Ghc 2.00 for just a ball of Kenke which was initially sold at the rate of 0.50 pesewas and Ghc 1.00 respectively. Sharing his opinion on the issues of hardship raised by Ghanaians, Mr. Obiri Boahen confessed that it will be unreasonable and insensitive on his part to say that is rosy. However, he believes by December- January there will be abundant of food in the country. “It will be unreasonable on my part to say that all is rosy, it will be insensitive on my part to say that all is rosy. But I believe that very soon food will be in abundance because honorably we are in November. Some years gone by in November some will be getting ready to harvest maize but this time, people starts planting maize not quite long ago. So, I can foresee that from December-January, plantain, cassava and maize will be in abundance in the market because of the change in the rainfall pattern, it has affected a good number of farmers”.
