The disgruntled grassroots members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) who are demonstrating against President Nana Akufo-Addo’s list of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executive nominees have been hired to do so, political pundit Ben Ephson has said. According to Mr Ephson, the best option for the assemblymen and women of the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies is to vote against the president’s nominees if they are unhappy with the list and, thus, demonstrating and vandalising property betrays the up-to-no-good scheming of some interested political elements who have paid people to cause mayhem. His comment comes on the back of pockets of disturbances that have greeted the president’s list of MMDCEs across the country. In Chereponi in the North East Region, some angry youth on Sunday, 19 September 2021, destroyed some structures over the nomination of Zuwera Mada Nashiru as the District Chief Executive. The youth preferred S. K. Orlando. The timely intervention of the district police de-escalated the tension. Reacting to this development on the Class Morning Show on Class91.3FM on Monday, 20 September 2021, Mr Ephson noted that destroying property was not the solution to getting the president to change his mind about his nominees. The pollster told show host Kofi Oppong Asamoah that: “If those supporters are actually on the ground, it will be reflected in the voting to confirm the MMDCEs”. “If people are not paid to go out and demonstrate against the president’s choice and the person is popular, the various assembly members are voted in, so, ‘if I support Mr A and Mr B is chosen and I’m angry, I’ll tell my assembly member not to vote to support this person; if you do, the next assembly election I’ll not vote for you.’ This is where the reflection will be because those who are agitating how many of them are actually foot soldiers? “So, if you’re angry and the district assemblies work at the grassroots level, then there’s no need to demonstrate. They’ve been hired and paid and, unfortunately, it is not going to help them because the long period has given an opportunity for them [MMDCE nominees] to be able to gather their things well …,” he stated. Asked who had been paid, Mr Ephson said the demonstrators. “They have been paid to demonstrate. If you are actually on the ground, tell your assembly man not to confirm the president’s nominee. There’s no need shouting and destroying offices. If the person is on the ground, you, the aggrieved people, tell your assemblyman: ‘Don’t pass this nominee’.” He further stated that the bankrollers behind the demonstrators are “the interested people, the businessman and my good friend the incumbent MCE and he’s not been given the appointment again, ‘I’ll ask people to demonstrate as if that will change the president’s mind.’” He advised the demonstrators against acts of vandalism, saying: “It is a better option for you to go and talk to the assemblyman when it comes to confirmation and say: ‘Don’t confirm the person nominated by the president.’” —classfm Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. MMDCE list: Nsawam traders reject President Akufo-Addo’s nominee
A leaked document containing the nomination of some MMDCEs in the Eastern Region has infuriated some traders at Nsawam who have kicked against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s choice. A document sighted by GhanaWeb mentions the incumbent Isaac Buabeng as the one nominated by the president as MCE for Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency. The retention of Isaac Buabeng did not evoke positive motions from some traders in the municipality who took to the streets of Nsawam today, September 17, 2021 to protest against the decision. At a press conference held after the demonstration, the traders accused Isaac Buabeng of failure to show much competence in the first term. They believe that his continuous stay in office will impede the municipality’s progress as the workload will fall on only their Member of Parliament, Yaw Annoh-Dompreh. They thus want President Akufo-Addo to recall the list and nominate Emmanuel Owusu Arthur as MCE. “Mr President, we beg you to appoint Emmanuel Owusu Arthur as MCE in our constituency because he is humble and hardworking which implies that he can work hand-in-hand with our MP, Frank Annoh-Dompreh. “Mr. President, we know that you are a listening government. We end here with more peace, may God richly bless you in abundance to help you rule the county. Amen. We hope our request will be granted in good faith” the petition added. Ghana’s Presidential jet being used by Liberia’s President
Ghana’s official Presidential jet, which appears abandoned by President Nana Akufo-Addo, for rented private jets, has been seen in faraway Liberia. The Falcon 900 Ex jet, was seen flying the Liberian President, George Oppong Weah to Ghana for an Emergency ECOWAS Summit in Ghana today, September 15, 2021. The terms and conditions surrounding the use of Ghana’s presidential jet by the Liberian leader, is not yet available. It is also not clear, if Liberia has a presidential jet and what happened to it. President Weah, was being seen off by his ministers at the Liberian airport this morning enroute to Ghana. Recently, the NDC MP for North Tongue, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, released details of another expensive jet rented by President Akufo-Addo to Germany and to the UK. It had a movie theater, a bedroom and a bathroom which has been one of the controversial issues surrounding the disuse of the official jet as suggested by Defense Minister, Dominic Nitiwul in Parliament in February this year. The latest jet according to the MP, was chartered between US$18,000 and US$22,000 per hour if the Akufo-Addo government did not deal directly with the operators of the LX-DIO, based in Luxembourg. However, if the government dealt directly with Global Jet Luxembourg, then Ghanaian taxpayers, must have paid at least US$14,000 per hour for the use of the airplane. Pictures taken from the interior of the new aircraft, showed it has a shower, a movie room and a bedroom for President Akufo-Addo’s relaxation and entertainment, while airborne. A worried Okudzeto Ablakwa, was forced to scream out “President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is unable to wean himself off his insatiable appetite for ultra-luxury charter jets at the expense of the struggling Ghanaian taxpayer”. “If our government is dealing directly with the operators of the LX-DIO, then it is costing the Ghanaian taxpayer at least US$14,000 per hour. However, if our government is leasing the aircraft via brokers or middlemen as it has gained notoriety in many sectors, you shouldn’t be surprised that the Ghanaian taxpayer is being billed between US$18,000 and US$22,000 per hour”. The MP from the Volta Region, who has been at the forefront of similar exposés, including Defense Minister Dominic Nitiwul being questioned on the renting of these expensive jets, insists Mr Akufo-Addo”..,remains totally impervious to the backlash and the outcry from Ghanaians demanding that he lives up to his own pledge to protect the public purse by utilizing the presidential jet which is a far cheaper and safer option. —theheraldgh Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. MMDCEs to support funeral of Regional Minister’s dad with about GH¢50,000?
• MMDAs are asked to contribute towards the funeral of Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah’s father • The MMDAs are paying about GH¢ 50,000 • They have been directed to pay to the Regional Accountant – WRCC (Room 19) by close of Monday, September 20 GhanaWeb has intercepted a letter from the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC), asking Metropolitan Municipal District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and Metropolitan Municipal District Chief Directors (MMDCDs) to contribute towards the final funeral rites of the father of the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, popularly known as Kobby. The letter which is on the letterhead of the WRCC dated September 15, 2021, and signed by the Chief Director/RCD, Fredrick Agyemang, is directing all the 14 assemblies in the Western Region to contribute a total of GH¢ 49,000 towards the funeral. The introduction of the said letter suggests that, there have been prior discussions with the deans of all MMDCEs and MMDCDs discussing how best they can support the Regional Minister to give his late father, Nana Boanyina Adusei Mensah II, a befitting burial. GhanaWeb checks reveal that some MCEs are yet to receive the letter but there has been an earlier funeral invitation from the WRCC inviting all the 14 assemblies and their MCEs to the funeral which is slated to take place between September 23 to 25, 2021 at Boanim in the Ashanti Region. “Following a decision with the deans of MMDCEs and MMDCES… it has been decided that your MMDA is to contribute the following amount towards the final funeral rites of the late father of the Hon Regional Minister, Nana Boanyina Adusei Mensah II, Boanimhene…”, the letter directed. MMDCEs: President Akufo-Addo Submits Finalized List To Dan Botwe To Announce
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has finalised the list of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) to be nominated to serve in the next three-and-a-half years. The list is expected to be received by the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Daniel Botwe, Thursday morning for onward announcement. These were disclosed by the Director of Communications at the Jubilee House, Eugene Arhin. “Expect the list to be announced by the Minister very soon,” he wrote on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, September 15. Delay in nominating chief executives for the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) has been a matter of concern to many groups and individuals. In July, the Chamber for Local Government (ChaLoG) accused President Akufo-Addo of employing “unnecessary” and “unproductive” processes in nominating MMDCEs. “ChaLoG wishes to call on the President to urgently come to terms with the negative impact his actions and inactions which has led to the delay in nominating MMDCEs to be confirmed by the Hon Assembly Members, is having on the smooth administration of the MMDAs,” it said in a press release on Sunday, July 25. The President had issued a directive through the Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare, for MMDCEs from his first term to continue acting in office. This issue was dragged to court by Member of Parliament for South Dayi Constituency Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor. ChaLoG felt that directive has hampered progress in the local assemblies. “As a result of this directive, all the MMDAs across the country have not undertaken any new projects even though they continue to collect Property Rates, Business Operating Permits, Markets and Lorry Tolls from rate payers, yet no capital projects are being undertaken by the Assemblies seven months into the year 2021.” Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Akufo-Addo launches four Aluminium dev’t projects
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has launched the four key projects under the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) with the aim of ensuring the full utilisation of Ghana’s bauxite. They include the expansion of existing mine at Awaso and building of a refinery and the development of a mine at Nyinahin-Mapasaaso and a refinery solution. The others are the development of a mine at Kyebi, a second mine at Nyinahin- Mpassaaso and building of a refinery and the modernisation and expansion of Valco smelter to improve efficiency and increase capacity. An agreement was, thus, signed between GIADEC and Rocksure International Limited, a wholly owned Ghanaian business to develop a mine at Nyinahin-Mapasaaso and a refinery solution The signing of the agreement will enable GIADEC to begin mining operations within 24 months. It will also see to the development of a refinery solution within the next four years. The projects would be dependent on the 900 million tonnes of bauxite reserves that exist across three locations in the country including Awaso in the Western North Region, Nyinahin and Mpasaaso in the Ashanti and Eastern Region respectively. President Akufo-Addo said the projects were critical toward the realisation of government’s Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda. His commitment toward building a prosperous Ghana, he said, was unwavering, adding that the signing of the agreement was an indication of the governing party’s keeping faith with Ghanaians. The President further stated that Government will act to protect the environment at all times and reiterated calls for all mining activities to be done in a responsible and sustainable manner. President Akufo-Addo expressed delight about the choice of Rocksure in partnering GIADEC saying “The choice is very pleasing.” He maintained that he was certain that Rocksure international will be a credible partner to GIADEC. As “the metal of the future,” he urged the Board and Management of GIADEC to execute their mandate with all sense of urgency. The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor, said that after almost two and half years of its existence, GIADEC has worked towards realisation of the noble and outstanding vision of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. He stated that government, through the Ministry, has taken far-reaching steps to promote effective and responsible exploitation and preservation of the country’s natural resources. Emphasising the importance of aluminium to economic development, he said “we cannot industrialise without developing an Integrated Aluminium industry.” For his part, the CEO of GIADEC, Mr Michael Ansah explained that GIADEC’s strategic plan is to partner with the private sector to attract significant investment to develop and maximize the potential of all core and non- core areas in the sector. He added that “our plan has resulted in the 4 key projects to be developed concurrently.” He expressed utmost appreciation to all stakeholders who had supported the GIADEC, notably the Asantehene, Okeyehene, ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi among others. Ghana Integrated Aluminium development Corporation (GIADEC) seeks to leverage on Ghana’s existing bauxite reserves and allied aluminium assets, to drive the full commercial exploitation of the country’s bauxite reserves, and add value through refining bauxite into Alumina, and smelting Alumina to produce Aluminium, whilst encouraging the development of downstream industries. —Classfm Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. The President Ghana Bar Association (GBA) in the Upper East Region, Amoak Afoko, has made a request to the appropriate authorities to consider establishing a law school in the Upper East Region. He made the special appeal during his welcome address at the ongoing Ghana Bar Association’s Annual General Conference held in Bolgatanga of the Upper East Region on Monday, September 13, 2021. ‘No president has fought corruption as much as Akufo-Addo has’ – Eugene Arhin
• President Akufo-Addo’s will to fight corruption is unmatched in Ghana’s history • This is the view of his spokesman Eugene Arhin • Government has come under a barrage of corruption allegations from the NDC and John Dramani Mahama Director of Communications at the presidency, Eugene Arhin, has said no president in the history of Ghana has fought corruption as much as his boss, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Arhin made the comment whilst addressing journalists at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. His views were in response to a Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) survey that concluded that respondents did not believe in the president’s ability to fight corruption. “The report is not one we can easily dismiss. Yes, they have conducted their survey but we, on the other hand, believe that in the fight against corruption, no President has done more than Nana Akufo-Addo and there are facts to back it. “If we are to consider the funds that were sent to the five accountability institutions of states, there was a 25% increase in their funding in 2017. In 2018, there was a 34% increase across the board,” he added. He further mentioned the Office of a Special Prosecutor, OSP, as a key plank in the president’s commitment to fighting corruption before stating that the presidency disagreed with the findings of the survey. “The establishment of an independent institution to fight corruption, that is the office of the Special Prosecutor, was in fulfilment of a campaign result by the President. “We thus disagree with the survey results. No President in the history of the country has fought corruption as much as Akufo-Addo has,” he stressed. Back in 2017, Arhin told TV3 that the Akufo-Addo-led government will call for investigations into any allegation of corruption made against any official on an as and when basis. “We are not going to allow any single case of corruption [allegation] to be swept under the carpet,” Eugene Arhin said at the time. His views were in response to corruption allegations levelled against then deputy chiefs of staff Francis Asenso-Boakye and Samuel Abu Jinapor by musician and New Patriotic Party (NPP) sympathizer A-Plus. The two of them were subsequently cleared after an investigation and have since won seats in Parliament. Recently, the government and the New Patriotic Party, NPP, have been on the defensive repelling corruption allegations levelled against the government by former President John Dramani Mahama on his ‘Thank You Tour.’ Ghanaweb Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications.
