According to President Akufo-Addo the recent criticisms of his government by former President John Mahama is a pure indication that the Mr. Mahama is still struggling to accept his defeat in the 2020 presidential election. Speaking in an interview on a Ho-based radio station to wrap up his two-day tour of the Volta Region, President Akufo-Addo noted that Mr Mahama is still confused about his defeat and has lost control of his comments against the government. President John Mahama, while addressing a gathering of chiefs and people at the 2022 edition of the Asogli Yam Festival in the Volta Region, said the government has lost the fight against corruption. “This government, the NPP government has completely lost control of the fight against corruption. President Akufo-Addo in his inaugural address promised to protect the public purse. “Today even that public purse cannot be found. The revelations in the Auditor-General’s report for 2021 is simply a microcosm of the real extent of the seeming institutionalisation of corruption under this administration,” Mr Mahama said. But President Akufo-Addo stressed that Mr Mahama is still distressed by the margin with which he lost the 2016 and 2020 general elections. He said contrary to the claims of Mr Mahama, his government is “confident in our ability to master the situation and bring our country back again.” “Mr Mahama still has not been able to assimilate his defeat twice to the man who he had said could never come to power in Ghana and I think every night when he goes to bed, he is confused about the man who has not just come back but given him a good whipping on two separate occasions. We won the landslide in 2016 and again decisive margin in 2020. He has never gotten the figures that I have gotten in elections in Ghana, he knows,” President Akufo-Addo said. According to President Akufo-Addo, Mr Mahama and the NDC are aware of his government’s achievements, hence, should avoid their sheer criticisms. “He knows that significant progress and achievements have been made and that it is necessary for him and his supporters to denigrate that exercise, to go out of their way and to poo-poo everything that we have done,” he added. Our focus during COVID was to save lives–Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia has said President Nana Akufo-Addo’s target during the COVID pandemic, was to save the lives of Ghanaians.Apexnewsgh.com report Dr.Bawumia in his explanation of what has caused Ghana from achieving impressive economic performance on Wednesday, 17 August 2022, said before they could say Jack, Russia and Ukraine also came in and make things more difficult for them as government “We had to undertake a major banking crisis reform that we consolidated a number of banks. At that time, 2018, 2019, this cost almost close to $7 billion for the country to save the banking system; almost $7 billion”, Dr. Bawumia said. “Now, the choice that was available was, ‘either you let the banking system collapse or you save it’. There was really no middle way. Whose deposits were you going to let go [of]? And we had to save the banking system and the deposits of 4.6 million people”. “Of course, we also had COVID coming in at the end of 2019”, and “And we had the worst depression since the 1930s in the global economy and COVID had its major impact”. “Of course, from the President’s point of view at the time of COVID, the emphasis was to save lives and was not on fiscal discipline and, so, we had to, basically, focus on saving lives at great fiscal cost, but before we could know it, Russia and Ukraine also came to add to our troubles and we are dealing with those issues”, Dr. Bawumia said. “fiscal discipline, really is the ability of the government to balance revenues and expenditures and when discipline is not maintained, expenditures inevitably exceed revenues and that creates a deficit”. “Following where we are, the government has focused, in the 2022 budget, on fiscal consolidation to enhance debt and fiscal sustainability, as we implement our economic revitalization and transformation programme”, he said. “the implementation of the measures highlighted in the 2022 budget should lead to a significant fiscal adjustment from a projected deficit of 12.1 percent of GDP in 2021 to 7.4 percent of GDP in 2022, and this represents a 4.7 percentage-point downward adjustment in the deficit in one year”. “In January 2022, the government announced and began implementing a 20-per cent expenditure cut as part of the fiscal stabilization and debt sustainability measures through the minister of finance and this was followed by an additional 10 percent cut in discretionary expenditure, all an attempt to balance the fiscal position and restore fiscal discipline following the banking crisis, the COVID, and Ukraine-Russia war and so on”, Dr. Bawumia said. In addition, Dr. Bawumia said, “the ministry of finance has strengthened expenditure monitoring systems and processes to ensure effective implementation of these measures”. For instance, he noted, “the government called for efficient use of energy resources and, in line with this, fuel coupon allocations to all political appointees and heads of government institutions, including SOEs, were cut by 50 percent” Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana/Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. No credible remedial plans have been put forward by the govt to salvage the economy–JDM
Former President John Dramani Mahama has said, from the look of things, that there appears to be no end to the problems facing the Ghanaian economy as he calls for a national dialogue on the economy. Read John Dramani post below: There appears to be no end to the problems with the Ghanaian economy, with the recent downgrade to CCC+/C Junk status. The steep depreciation of the Ghana Cedi in recent days, clearly shows that the mid-year review of the 2022 budget failed to win back the confidence of the investor community and the Ghanaian public. Unfortunately, no credible remedial plans have been put forward by the government to salvage the economy. A national dialogue on the economy, bringing some of our best brains together will serve us well, even as we prepare for debt restructuring and negotiation of an IMF programme. UER: President Akufo-Addo left Agenda 111 site in Katanga because …..
The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has revealed, that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo wasn’t pleased with the level of work done by the contractor in charge of Agenda 111 in Katanga a community in the Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region. Apexnewsgh.com report As part of President Akufo-Addo’s itinerary for his one-day tour to the Upper East Region, he was supposed to visit Katanga a community in the Bolgatanga East District just after commissioning the Tono water expansion project in Navrongo. But sadly, it appears President Akufo-Addo’s mood automatically changed immediately after he arrived at the site scene and saw what looks like foundation-level work already done by the contractor in charge. However, immediately, the already organized durbar to welcome the president was brought to a standstill and he immediately turned his car and left the scene. The Chiefs, elders, and people of Bolgatanga East were not satisfied with the action they witnessed hence, it has become a talking point. Meanwhile, when Apexnewsgh.com engaged the Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu in an exclusive interview, the Minister who was not excited with such drama witnessed at the site scene said: “The question is why are other contractors doing well and others are not doing well? According to Mr. Yakubu, “Is not the making of government, the party or the President, is the making of the contractor. The problem is not as if the government has not given mobilization to the contractors, it has been done. So is not a money matter”. He stressed “So, we took the President there and he got there and saw what was there. So, he wasn’t very pleased that is it. Is not about location, because the location is usually decided at the base level with DCE and the DCE also didn’t do it alone, he did it in consultation with the chiefs and the elders. As you saw, the Chiefs were happy to come there to meet with the President”. He disregards the ‘location’ rumor “If you look at the location, there are more people living around the site. That wasn’t an issue. The issue was the contractor not actually moving as fast as the President wanted him to and that was the reason why the president thought that he has seen it and things are not pretty good”. We have about 8 of these Agenda 111 in this region and if you look at the other areas such as the Bawku areas, they are doing very well, it is just the BONABOTO area here that they are really not doing fantastic work and I have been on them. Regional Minister told Apexnewsgh.com Below was the level of work captured by Apexnewsgh.com during our visit Katanga Agenda 111. JUST IN: Fumbisi Rice Factory not under One District One Factory—Regional Minister
The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has revealed, that the party removed the Fumbisi Rice Factory from the President’s itinerary because it wasn’t part of government One District One Factory. Apexnewsgh.com report Mr. Yakubu made the revelation during an exclusive interview with Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh.com on Sunday, August 7, 2022. A few days before President Akufo-Addo’s arrival in the region, a lot of interviews were granted to some members of the governing New Patriotic (NPP) on various local radio stations, print and online media in the region to ascertain plans and where the president will be going and the role he will be performing at the programme venue. Then, in their individual responses, Fumbisi Rice Factory, Commissioning of Tono expansion water project, and Visit Bolga East Kantaga Agenda 111 were all mentioned by party executives who were creating awareness ahead of the President’s coming. In fact, at one of the radio stations, the issue of the Fumbisi Rice factory became a tough debate between the NPP representative and the Opposition NDC representative. The NDC was of the view that the Fumbisi Rice Factory has nothing to do with the 1D1F policy initiative, whiles the NPP representative claimed strongly that the Rice project is part of 1D1F. However, barely a day after the President’s Visit to the region, the Fumbisi Rice Factory was removed from the original itinerary plan for the president tour. That has raised some kind of questions, especially from members of the opposition NDC who are still asking questions upon questions about why the President could not visit the Fumbisi Rice Factory as planned. Meanwhile, when Apexnewsgh.com engaged the Regional Minister for some clarification on the numerous questions asked, he said “Initially we thought that it was part of the One District One Factory though. I think they are working on it, they are not fully part of the 1D1F. Therefore, we didn’t want to go and commission a private person’s factory”. Reg. Minister told Apexnewsgh.com He confirmed, “The factory came up because President went there in 2018, went to the Fumbisi area and a lot of people there and saw the rice farm and that actually brought a lot of investors there and therefore, is as a result of that this has come up”. Meanwhile, when Apexnewsgh.com contacted the Builsa South District Chief Executive (DCE) Daniel Kwame Gariba, he claimed the owner of the factory was the one who requested that the President should come for the Rice Factory commissioning.
