17 Arrested in Anti-Galamsey Operation in Western Region

The Special Police Anti-Galamsey Taskforce from the National Police Headquarters has arrested 17 suspects, including 7 Chinese nationals and 10 Ghanaians, in connection with illegal mining activities at Samreboi in the Western Region.

The arrests were made on May 25, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to combat galamsey in the area.

All 17 suspects have been transported to Accra to assist with further investigations into their alleged involvement in illegal mining activities. The anti-galamsey task force is intensifying operations within affected communities, focusing on identifying additional persons of interest and protecting the affected forest reserves.

The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to supporting national efforts to combat illegal mining. The operation is part of a broader initiative to address the environmental and social impacts of galamsey, and to ensure that those involved in these activities are brought to justice.
