Nigerian musician Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2face, has advised Ghanaians to go out there and vote peacefully. The celebrated African artiste made these comments on Saturday, December 5, when he spoke to Accra-based Onua FM. “Voting no be war,” the African Queen crooner stressed. “Let’s just go out there and make our choices peacefully. To all my Ghanaian fans, please vote peacefully.” He further added that “Ghanaians should respect each other’s choices”. “Don’t carry politician on your head and fight for him. LIVESTREAMED: President Akufo-Addo addresses Ghanaians ahead of elections
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is addressing the nation ahead of the 2020 elections. In his last speech ahead of the polls, the president’s speech is expected to focus on the importance of peace. He will also brief Ghanaians on the preparedness of the security agencies to deal with any act of violence. Earlier in the day, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa addressed the country and assured the Ghanaians of the readiness of the commission to deliver a successful election. She promised a free and fair election and cautioned parties and media houses against declaring results of the polls. President Akufo-Addo’s address comes barely 24-hours after he wrapped up his campaign with an appeal to Ghanaians to retain him. 13,000 people could not vote in special voting exercise – EC
Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Serebour Quaicoe, has said 13,000 of the expected 109,577 voters were unable to vote in the special voting exercise on December 1. Dr Quaicoe explained that they could not vote because they (voters) went to the wrong polling stations to cast their ballots. “We have already lost 13,000 people. Some people went to certain polling stations they thought they can vote there while they are not registered voters in the constituency. “We have been engaging them [security personnel] for more than three months now and we have been hitting on these issues that once you have not applied for transfer then your name will be in the constituency where you registered. So, don’t be surprised that on December 7, some of these complaints will come up,” Dr Quaicoe is quoted in a report by Joy News. According to the report, the EC Director of Electoral Services made the comment on Newsfile on Saturday. Dr Quaicoe said these voters lost the opportunity to vote because their details had been entered into the absentees’ list. The special voting exercise was to allow registered voters who will not be able to present themselves at their polling stations on the main election day because of the roles they play in the elections to vote on a date before the rest of the electorate vote on the date set for the election. Persons who qualify to vote under the special voting dispensation include members of the security services and agencies, personnel of the National Ambulance Service, accredited media persons, the National Media Commission and staff of the EC. Claim: The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi Bosiako known in the political circles as Chairman Wontumi has been arrested by the police for secretly printing ballot papers ahead of the December 7 elections. According to multiple reports by a section of the media and some social media posts cited by GhanaWeb, Chairman Wontumi who was in the company of the former Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, Mr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu were arrested with ballot papers in a hideout. Verdict: FALSE Explanation: With just a day left for Ghanaians to go to the polls, it was widely speculated in the media space and most especially on social media that Chairman Wontumi and Kokofu have been arrested by the police. According to Fact Check Ghana, the video that has surfaced on various social media platforms purporting to the arrest of the aforementioned and commentaries that people are thumb printing ballot papers ahead of Monday’s elections is from 2016 and is nowhere related to the 2020 elections. “This video has resurfaced on WhatsApp platforms with some commentaries that people are thumb printing ballot papers ahead of Monday’s elections. The video is from 2016 and not related to the 2020 elections.” Fact Check Ghana added that” The then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi) had reported to the police that he had information that thousands of thumb printed presidential ballot papers had been hidden at the said hotel. ” The complaint from Chairman Wontumi in 2016 led to the arrest of the said perpetrators by the Police. “Following that, the police mobilized and stormed the hotel around 7 am on Monday, December 5, 2016, according to Graphic Online. ” Conclusion: From this, Ghana Factcheck Desk can establish that the purported arrest of MR. Businesses pace up and down in lorry terminals ahead of Election 2020
Businesses are pacing up and down at different lorry terminals, possibly as a result of the upcoming December 7, polls, the Ghana News Agency has gathered. The Agency on Saturday visited a number of Lorry terminals to observe the numbers that were travelling before Ghanaians cast their ballots on Monday, December 7, 2020. At the VIP Lorry Terminal, at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, the Agency observed a crowded scene where passengers were worriedly and tiredly in queues awaiting a chance to get on board to their destinations. As at the 19:00 hours on Saturday evening, there were hundreds of passengers spotted joining queues personally or with their luggage just to find places to sit to rest, after being drained of all hope that the next car was going to be available soon. A staff who agreed to talk to the GNA at the VIP Lorry Terminal, as an anonymous worker, said the situation was usually like that every Friday, hence they could not tell whether the upcoming election had had any impact on the non-availability of cars or the multiplying number of passengers that were trooping in. He said usually over 200 vehicles packed on the lorry terminal, however, as at the 1930 hours of Saturday, more than 140 cars had set off to varied destinations. The Agency observed that passengers had queued awaiting the chance to buy tickets at varied stations of the terminal including that of Kumasi, Dormaa, Sampa, Berekum, Wenchi, Enchi, Sunyani and Bolga among others. The situation at the STC Lorry Terminal, was no different, even though was a bit relaxed, as passengers were seen seated and awaiting a bus to purchase their tickets and get on board. Mr Paul Siaw, a Ticket Seller, at the Ho station, Accra, on the other hand, said business had declined from the early hours of Friday December 4, 2020 to Saturday. As at the 17:40 hours, he said the station that usually had registered about six or seven cars to move daily from Accra to Ho, was yet to get the third full minibus of passengers to set off. He confidently, said political parties hired buses to convey their supporters to other regions to vote in the December 7 polls, a situation he believed reduced the usual sales they made over the weekends. Mr Yaw Simpson, the Assistant Station Master of the Koforidua Station, in Accra Tema station, said for his part, business had boomed by 100 per cent from the beginning of the weekend. He said on an average day, the station made sales with about 20 cars, however, as at the 1800 hours of Saturday December 5, 2020, 40 cars had already set off to Koforidua. In an interaction with some of the passengers, Mr Appiah Gyamfi, who was traveling to Kumasi at the VIP station, said he deliberately registered to cast his ballot in Kumasi, so he could join his family there to make merry when his party won the election, hence the reason for joining a queue on Saturday evening. Mrs Mabel Enyonam Mensah, a passenger on an Accra-Ho bus, said she also registered deliberately at Ho to get an opportunity to reunite with her family and vote as well, as her work in Accra barely gave her time to travel to her hometown. 7 years after marriage, I was the one who got his wife pregnant for him
She came to work that day, looking like she had been beaten. She looked pale and troubled and didn’t talk all day. “That’s not like Grace. What’s eating her up?” I thought to myself. So later in the day, when I was alone with her in the office, I went to her desk and asked, “You don’t look like the colorful Grace that I know. Is anything the matter?” She sighed and said, “It’s my husband. I’m already tired of this marriage. Is that the way you treat your wife in the house?” I knew it was going to be a long marital discussion so I pulled my chair and sat next to her. “If you’ll want to talk about it. I’m here. I will listen.” She began, “My husband, he treats me like toilet paper in the house. I’ve become the doormat on which he cleans the underneath of his shoes before he walks into the house.” I’ve grown to realize that immediately a woman goes into her own soul to speak like this then she had been bearing the pain for so long that it has become unbearable. In the middle of narrating her story, she began to tear up. We were in the office so I told her, “Don’t let our colleagues come to see you like this. Hold on a little bit, we can talk about it after work.” After work, I went to sit next to her in her car. She began; “I know it’s because we haven’t had a child after seven years of marriage, that’s why he’s behaving like this. He blames it on me. When he’s angry, he tells me I’m unable to get pregnant because I aborted all my children when I was young and busily sleeping around with my boyfriends. I don’t remember the last time he called me by my name. He calls me Hey, herh, or he’ll tap his fingers to draw my attention. I believe he has forgotten my name.” I asked her, “What gives him the impression that you’re the cause of your inability to get pregnant?” “When we were dating,” She said, “I got pregnant for him. We were not in the position to give birth so he asked me to get rid of it and I did. Because I did that for him, he thinks I did that too for all my exes that’s why I can’t get pregnant. We’ve visited doctors upon doctors and they all say we are fine. It’s just a matter of time.” I sat next to her as she cried throughout the narration of her story. It was getting late. I said a lot of things to encourage her. I’ve been married to my wife for six years and we don’t have a child too but we don’t fight about it. We are trusting the process and all the while enjoying our marriage until the baby comes. I told her to be steadfast and pray. Miracles happen and hers was on the way. She stopped crying at some point and even smiled. All was well, I thought. The next morning, she came back to work with a different set of stories. I gave her a listening ear. Then it became a daily thing. Sometimes we could stay behind and talk till it was dark in the night. She didn’t have the desire to go home after work. She was scared. She turned into a workaholic and did a lot of unpaid overtime. She won the best worker award for four consecutive years but she couldn’t win her marriage. One afternoon, I saw her call on my phone. She was crying. Her husband had traveled for over two weeks and not a single call from him. He doesn’t pick her calls too. Then she said, “Maybe I should end it once and for all. All these pains. If I die, I’ll have them no more.” She then hung up the phone. I called several times and she didn’t pick. I was scared she’ll do something to herself so I told my wife I was going to pick something from the office and drove to her house. I knocked several times before she came to open the door. Immediately I entered, she hugged me so tight as if she was drowning and I was the last straw she could hang on to. We talked. She smiled. She said she was happy that I came. She served drinks. She served food. By the time we realized, the two of us were naked in the couch and panting for breath. It was so unexpected we both didn’t understand why we did what we did. One month later, she came to the office and instead of talking to me she sent me a message; “My guy, I’m pregnant. I should be very happy with it but I’m confused. This pregnancy could be yours.” I went to her desk and pulled her outside; “Are you serious? How could you even think about that?” “Yeah, I’m serious. I and my husband has been intimate over the weeks but I doubt he is responsible. Ghanaian duo Winful Cobinnah and Kwame Bonsu begin training at Ceramica Cleopatra
Ghanaian midfielders Winful Cobinnah and Kwame Bonsu have started training with new club Ceramica Cleopatra ahead of the new Egyptian topflight season. Salis Yakubu Atsuluho has confirmed being a card-bearing member of the New Patriotic Party who once stood on the ticket of the party in the Yapei-Kusawgu constituency. Speaking to Kevin Taylor on why he recorded President Akufo-Addo receiving what the NDC considers to be a bribe, Salis said that he has been a staunch member of the NPP since 1992. He said that following the recording of the video, there have been attempts to oust him from the party but he refused to blink. Salis said that no amount of intimidation or threat will make him relinquish his membership of the NPP. “I’m a die-hard NPP member and no one can remove me from the party. No one can sack me from the party despite what I have done. No idiot can remove from the party. I have been part of the party since 1992 and no dog can attempt to remove me from the party’s list”.
