Election 2020: NDC files petition to challenge results at Supreme Court on December 30
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it will go to court on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, to start the process to challenge the Presidential and Parliamentary election results. This was disclosed by the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi constituency and a member of the Legal team of the NDC, Rockson-Nelson Este Kwami Dafeamekpor. “Certainly, we (NDC) are going to court. This coming Wednesday, it should be done,” he told Accra-based Joy News. The date for the start of the legal process will be the last day of the 21 days an aggrieved political party has to file a legal challenge. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor who made this known on Accra-based Joy News said there is the perception that the NDC is more focused on the Parliamentary elections than the Presidential. But that is not true because the party needs to prepare itself very well in order to be able to challenge the Presidential election, that is why the focus has not been placed on it but the political party will challenge the Presidential results. The Ghana National Fire Service has encouraged the general public as a matter of urgency to observe fire safety protocols to reduce the incidence of domestic electrical fire outbreak during this festive season. During festive seasons most electrical gadgets are overworked and the general advice on preventive measures include maintaining the facility in good condition to avoid overcharging, short circuits, avoiding the use of plugs and wires in poor conditions, and lowering the recommended gauge. Speaking in an exclusive interview, the Deputy Upper East Regional Fire Commissioner and the Divisional Fire Officer Grade one in charge of Safety Juliet Iris Crabbe urged the general public to refrain from overloading sockets and to switch off and unplug all electrical appliances when not in use. She further encouraged households with wiring done over twenty-five years to engage competent electricians to rewire their houses to reduce the incidence of electrical fire outbreaks. Statistics from the Ghana Fire Service has revealed that as of December 21, the country has recorded 5,966 fire outbreaks this year. The significant rise can be attributed to the increase in domestic activities during the lockdown and the lack of urgency given to fire safety protocols. She discouraged occupants from passing wirings under the carpets in their rooms to reduce the risk of fire outbreak. While urging households using wood fuel to wet the fire to prevent them from smothering, the Deputy fire Commissioner encouraged people using a gas cylinder to turn off the knob as well as the cylinder head. The Divisional Officer Grade one encouraged residents to cherish the relative peace in the region and to use the occasion of Christmas and the Yuletide to soberly reflect on peaceful coexistence. On his part, a Divisional Officer grade III in charge of Safety at the Upper Regional Office of the Ghana National Fire Service, Solomon Afour urged business owners to strictly observe safety precautions at the workplace as most of their gadgets will be overworked and customers who patronize their service might be negligent with use of electrical gadgets. While urging house owners to create allowance in their house to enable fire personnel to gain access to the premise during fire outbreaks, he reminded Vehicle owners and Drivers to always keep fire extinguishers in the vehicles as the heat from the engines can potentially cause a fire accident. He explained that the heat emanating from the engines can potentially cause a fire accident at a location farther from the reach of the Fire Service. The Upper East Regional Manager of the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority, DVLA, Mutawakil Abdulai has advised the general public traveling for the Christmas and New Year festivities that arriving at the destination late is better off than arriving early to meet your untimely death. During December, there are statistically more vehicles on the roads than at other times in the year leading to the potential for more automobile accidents. Speaking in an exclusive interview he observed that advance preparation made ahead of the journey can avert the dangers of rushing to reach destinations during this festive season. The increase in auto accidents during the holiday season can also be attributed to the fact that drivers compromise on vehicle maintenance. While urging road users to avoid negative tendencies that predispose them to a road accident, the Regional Manager reminded vehicle owners and drivers of the need to maintain good maintenance culture and ensure the right pressure of their car tires and effective brake system. According to Statistics from the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority, DVLA, about 130 accident cases were reported to the outfit with 117 of the cases attended to in the upper East Region from January to October this year. About 53 fatalities were recorded mostly involving motorbikes accidents under the same period. The Regional Manager had revealed that most of these vehicular accidents were as a result of drunk driving, over speeding, collision with strayed animals crossing the road as well as the road environment. He attributed some portions of the blame on the failure of the Highways and the Urban Roads to maintain a good road environment arguing that the bad state of the roads contributes significantly to road crashes and related deaths, During this yuletide, the Regional Manager cautioned road users to mindful of the poor visibility during the season of Harmattan and to keep their headlamp on even during the day to forestall collision with oncoming vehicles. None payment of contractors could be a good reason for our abysmal performance in the region — Boniface Gambila
The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nabdam constituency and the 2020 Party Parliamentary candidate for the governing New Patriotic Party Boniface Gambila has told Apexnewsgh.com that one of the reasons why the party lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 7, election in the region, could be as a result of None payment of contractors. According to Mr. Gambila, if the government had taken a step to pay party contractors before the elections, it would have been better. Because it appears contractors were not happy with the government for starving them, their families, and relatives after they go to the bank for loans and later never received payment even during an election period. He thinks, is equally a contributing factor. He said, such an act by a government in power allows the opponent to use it against them during the campaign and it worked for them. Because whether you liked it or not, those contractors have families and relatives who depend on them for a lot of things to survive. According to the former Member of Parliament, if NDC were in power just like the NPP, they would have discriminated against the NPP contractors and make sure they settle their party contractors especially after going for bank loans. “For example, if you took NDC in the past, NDC in an election year will select their contractors and pay them and discriminate against your contractors. Election 2020: Many NDC polling agents couldn’t spell thier own names – Lord Hamah
