This was announced by Lands and Natural Resources Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor at a news briefing in Accra on Tuesday.
The minister reported a significant survival rate of 67% for the 7 million seedlings planted in 2021, 72% for the 24 million planted in 2022, and 81% for the 10.7 million planted in 2023.
The government has invested GH¢8 million in seedling purchases and received support from private and public institutions, faith-based organizations, and the Ghana Armed Forces.
This year’s Green Ghana Day, themed “Growing for a Greener Tomorrow,” aims to plant 10 million seedlings nationwide. The commemorative tree planting ceremony will take place at Burma Camp in Accra on June 7, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other dignitaries.
The initiative focuses on planting trees in degraded forest reserves, farms, parks, and communities, with the goal of promoting sustainable development and ecosystem resilience.
