50-Year Lease Deal: Nana Akomea’s STC Land Controversy Exposed

Three months after leaving office, Nana Akomea, the former Managing Director of Intercity-STC Coaches Limited, is facing serious allegations of mismanagement and improper asset disposal. Apexnewsgh reports

According to Nuru Hamidan, the current Deputy Managing Director of STC, the new management inherited a nearly crippled company with all major assets sold off or leased out.

Hamidan revealed that prime STC properties across the country, including the Asafo terminal in Kumasi, had been leased out to individuals described as “politically connected” for up to 50 years. This arrangement allegedly violates existing laws governing state assets. The Tudu terminal in Accra, for example, has been rented out to a private individual to construct shops, leaving the terminal in a dilapidated state.

The Deputy MD also disclosed that the company’s training school and vehicle valuation centre had been leased to private operators under questionable terms. What’s more alarming is that since 2021, no audited financial statements have been produced for the company.

“There has been no audit of STC accounts for the past four years. This is deeply troubling for a state-owned enterprise,” Hamidan said.

Hamidan painted a bleak picture of the company’s fleet status, stating that STC does not own a single operational vehicle. “All our buses are under alliance agreements with third parties,” he explained. Even official vehicles used by management had been taken away by Nana Akomea, the former Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The new management walked into an office stripped of assets, with no vehicles, buses, or records, leaving only the STC name. The allegations against Nana Akomea have raised serious concerns about the management of state-owned enterprises and the need for greater accountability.
