During the 2023 Yam Festival of the Asogli State and the 20th-anniversary celebration of his reign, which took place on Saturday, October 7, 2023, Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, expressed his concern regarding the growing number of churches being established in the country.
Togbe Afede XIV recognized the pressing issue of youth unemployment and emphasized the importance of creating job opportunities for the Ghanaian youth. He questioned the proliferation of churches without equal socio-economic and national development and highlighted the potential social consequences of this trend.
According to Togbe Afede XIV “People now convert factory premises into churches. We have become more believing than those who brought Christianity and religion to us. Those have been part of our downfall, and as chiefs, let us remember that no success can be achieved except through hard work.”
The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State expressed concerns about the authority given to the President by the 1992 Constitution, claiming that it obstructs efforts to address corruption, transparency, and accountability in national matters.
He urged for a thorough revision of the constitution to establish necessary safeguards and limit excessive powers. He emphasized that without these amendments, significant national progress would remain difficult to achieve.
The Dormahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, who served as the esteemed guest speaker at the event, encouraged fellow chiefs to continue openly discussing societal issues.
He emphasized that these actions would hold public officials responsible and ensure that the nation’s resources are distributed fairly among Ghanaians.
