Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni made a public announcement on Friday, revealing that she and her partner, Andrea Giambruno, have decided to separate.
The couple, who have a young daughter together, had been in a relationship for nearly a decade.
Meloni stated that their paths had been diverging for some time. However, the timing of the announcement followed Giambruno being caught on audio allegedly making inappropriate comments towards his colleagues. This issue was brought to light by the Italian satirical news program, Striscia la Notizia, which aired clips and audio related to Giambruno over the course of two nights.
Striscia la Notizia is a popular primetime show on the Mediaset broadcaster, which is associated with the Forza Italia party of the late Silvio Berlusconi, a junior partner in Meloni’s government.
