Instead, victims of minor crimes will be required to complete an online form and sign it at their local police station.
Previously, individuals who were victimized had the option of calling the National Police and reporting the incident in English, which provided much-needed reassurance for non-Spanish speaking tourists and expats.
Regrettably, this is no longer the case, and those who wish to report a crime over the phone will need to be proficient in the Spanish language. As an alternative, English speakers can inform the National Police of the incident through the Virtual Complaints Office.
To do so, victims of a minor crime must fill out an online form, which must then be signed in person at a police station within 72 hours. However, it is important to note that the Virtual Complaints Office should not be used in situations involving physical violence or intimidation, when the perpetrator is known or recognizable, you must be under 18 year of age.
If any crime is being committed at that moment, it should be reported immediately by dailing 091 or 122.
