The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East Constituency, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has officially opened newly constructed boreholes in three communities within his constituency. The communities that have benefited from this project are Pologo Kaborebiisi, Asonge Kunkwa, and Dachio, all located in the Bolgatanga East District. During a media briefing after the commissioning, Dr. Ayine explained that the construction of these boreholes was made possible through his common fund and additional resources. He highlighted the specific challenges faced by the community of Kunkwa, which is heavily populated but lacks adequate access to clean water. Although the constituency had previously provided them with four boreholes, residents in remote sub-communities were still facing difficulties accessing water. They had to cross the Bolga-Bawku road, a busy main road with heavy traffic, including fast-moving cars and motorcycles.
Recognizing the dangers posed to the community, especially to women and children who had to cross the road to fetch water, Dr. Ayine made it a priority to ensure direct access to water within the sub-communities. As a result, he commissioned the construction of three boreholes in Pologo Kaborebiisi, Asonge Kunkwa, and Dachio community, greatly improving water accessibility for the residents.
Ayine said, this is the 76 boreholes he has commissioned since he took office as an MP for area. “For me, is a question of access to water been a basic human right. So, I have taken water a serious social service, I have taken education very seriously, I have taken health very seriously and these for me is a non-negotiable right we have to ensure the people have access”.
Addressing criticisms regarding his performance as the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East, Dr. Dominic Ayine responded by challenging his detractors to present data for a fair comparison. He emphasized that when he assumed office in 2013, President John Dramani Mahama, under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), had overseen the construction of 48 boreholes in 48 communities. During his tenure, Dr. Ayine added an additional 30 boreholes, bringing the total to 76, which he highlighted as a significant achievement.
Dr. Ayine urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to provide data on the number of boreholes they constructed during their first four years in office and their second term, to enable a fair assessment of their performance. By presenting these figures, he aimed to showcase his commitment to the people of Bolgatanga East and demonstrate his dedication to improving their access to clean water.
