The allodial family of the late President Prof John Evans Atta-Mills, residing in Ekumfi Nanabin in the Ekumfi municipality of the Central Region, has expressed their desire for the immediate repatriation of the late president’s body for reburial in Cape Coast. The family wishes for their son to be laid to rest alongside his late parents at a family cemetery located in the Cape Coast municipality.

Nana Obosuye, the Bermuhene of Ekumfi Nanabin, Amona, and Denkyira, spoke on behalf of the family, dismissing the need for an autopsy report to determine the cause of the late president’s death. He questioned why individuals demanding the report for Prof Atta-Mills were not making the same request for other former leaders such as Jerry John Rawlings, former Vice President Aliu Mahama, and Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur. He viewed this as a deliberate attempt to tarnish the reputation of a prominent member of the Amona and Denkyira family.

The Bermuhene of Ekumfi Nanabin stressed that the family’s primary concern is the exhumation of the late president’s body and its subsequent return to be buried in the family burial ground. This location holds the resting places of the late president’s father, mother, and siblings.

During an appearance on the Ghana Yensom Morning show on Accra 100.5 FM, the Bermuhene expressed the family’s dissatisfaction with the handling of events following the late president’s passing. He declared that the family had chosen to remain silent until now in order to maintain peace. However, if individuals refuse to accept this approach, it becomes their concern to address.

The family conveyed their intention to no longer tolerate any attempts to tarnish their reputation. They urged individuals seeking information about the late president’s family to visit Ekumfi Nanabin directly, cautioning against giving credence to those falsely claiming to be family members.

Additionally, the Bermuhene denied any knowledge of the Queen mother’s demand for an autopsy report during her meeting with President Nana Akufo-Addo. He concluded by stating that the family was not informed about the reconstruction of the Asodwe park and is currently unable to access the late president’s burial grounds.
