Minority Caucus Sets Record Straight: Mahama Resolved ‘Dumsor’ Before Leaving Office

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has countered recent claims by Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, asserting that former President John Dramani Mahama effectively resolved the intermittent power outages, known as ‘dumsor’, before the end of his term. Apexnewsgh reports

According to the Caucus, Mahama’s administration left office with an excess capacity of power, resulting in the country having approximately 83% of generational capacity.

Ranking Member on the Government Assurances Committee, John Oti Bless, emphasized Mahama’s significant contribution to addressing the power sector’s challenges. He noted that while previous administrations, including President Kufuor’s era, had also faced dumsor, Mahama took bold and decisive action to tackle the issue. “President John Mahama was bold enough, humble enough, and took responsibility and said he was going to solve it. And he did solve it. Before President Mahama left office, we had excess capacity and our generation was about 83%,” Bless stated.

The Minority Caucus’ assertion challenges the Energy Minister’s recent remarks, which attributed the current dumsor issue solely to the Mahama government, despite its resurgence during the Akufo-Addo administration.

The Caucus’ statement sets the record straight, acknowledging Mahama’s proactive approach to addressing the power sector’s challenges and his success in resolving the dumsor issue before leaving office.
