President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has criticized former President John Dramani Mahama for refusing to debate Vice President Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia, citing that Mahama’s one-term presidency undermines his credibility and political influence. Akufo-Addo’s remarks came during a tour of the Ahafo Region on October 29.
Mahama had previously declined the debate, stating that engaging with Bawumia would elevate him to Mahama’s level. However, Akufo-Addo argued that Mahama’s tenure as a one-term president doesn’t justify claims of superiority over Bawumia.
Akufo-Addo emphasized that Mahama has “no level” over Bawumia and should not avoid the debate on grounds of seniority. He encouraged supporters to back Bawumia in the upcoming elections, highlighting his leadership and contributions as testament to his capacity to lead Ghana effectively.
This exchange follows Bawumia’s own criticism of Mahama’s refusal to debate, stating that Mahama cannot substantiate his campaign claims with data. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has also labeled a potential debate as “completely worthless”.
