The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set its sights on making history in the Volta Region, targeting a record-breaking voter turnout in the 2024 presidential election. Apexnewsgh reports
The party’s ambitious goal is to secure between 300,000 and 500,000 votes, a threefold to fivefold increase from its 2020 performance. This bold move is part of the NPP’s strategy to expand its influence in a region traditionally dominated by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to NPP Director of Communications, Mr. Richard Ahiagbah, the party is confident in its message of economic empowerment, infrastructure, and sustainable development for all Ghanaians. “Our target is clear: we aim to win between 300,000 and 500,000 votes in the 2024 presidential election,” Mr. Ahiagbah stated. This goal reflects the party’s determination to transform the Volta Region into an electoral battleground where both parties compete based on policies that genuinely uplift the people.
The NPP is committed to ending the NDC’s longstanding dominance, which it believes has not delivered the transformative progress the Volta Region deserves. Mr. Ahiagbah noted that the region is experiencing an “electoral renaissance,” with the middle class and youth driving demand for policies that foster economic growth and global competitiveness.
Recent trends suggest that the NPP’s efforts are gaining traction. In the 2020 election, the party won the Hohoe parliamentary seat for the first time, increased its presence in Ketu North, and garnered 14.1% of the presidential vote. Additionally, the warm reception Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received during his recent tour of the region indicates growing support.
As a Voltarian, Mr. Ahiagbah believes in the region’s potential for a competitive political landscape. He described the NPP’s plan for the Volta Region as an “electoral partnership” focused on development, inviting Voltarians to join in supporting the NPP to bring “Bold Solutions for Jobs and Business” to the region.
“The Volta Region stands to benefit from accelerated development under Dr. Bawumia’s presidency,” Mr. Ahiagbah concluded, pointing to the Akufo-Bawumia administration’s ongoing investments as a sign of more growth to come should the NPP secure victory in 2024.
