Kwame Governs Agbodza-led Roads & Highways Ministry has announced the reintroduction of road and bridge tolls in Ghana. However, this time around, the collection process will be “technologically-driven” and won’t involve traditional toll booths. Apexnewsgh reports
According to a statement issued on February 6, 2025, the ministry will employ a transparent and competitive procurement process to achieve this objective. The goal is to introduce a modernized system that tackles the country’s current tolling and road maintenance funding challenges.
This move comes after the previous administration, led by former President Nana Akufo-Addo, abolished road and bridge tolls in 2021 following the introduction of the electronic levy (e-levy). Interestingly, the same administration had hinted at restoring tolls in 2024.
The ministry has assured the public of its commitment to making this new system work, promising a fair and cost-effective process. Only time will tell how this technological revamp will impact Ghana’s roads and highways.
