The Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has rejected allegations that the government is responsible for recent attacks on journalists. Apexnewsgh reports
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) President, Kwabena Dwumfour, had condemned the Mahama administration for failing to address the rising number of assaults on journalists, citing seven cases since the start of President Mahama’s administration.
Kwakye Ofosu described the claims as “most regrettable” and unfair to President Mahama, the government, the GJA, and the affected journalists. He emphasized that the government is committed to protecting journalists and ensuring their safety.
The Minister revealed that he has engaged with the GJA President to discuss the concerns and scheduled a meeting for next week to address the issues. Kwakye Ofosu also highlighted President Mahama’s good standing with the GJA, stating that he would never supervise a dispensation where journalists are attacked.
Furthermore, Kwakye Ofosu refuted the notion that the government is targeting specific journalists, stressing that the claims are “completely incorrect” and “nothing of the sort has happened”.
