Bongo District Road: Where Loyalty is Met with Neglect–Hon Abiire Laments

Hon. Awineyesema Abiire, the Assemblyman for the Zorkor-Gamborongo Electoral Area, has voiced his concerns, emphasizing the stark contrast between the district’s unwavering support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) since 1992 and the dismal state of its infrastructure. Apexnewsgh reports

Abiire sheds light on the history of the Bolga-Zorko road, which was initiated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the Kufuor administration. However, he notes that when the NDC came to power, the project was left unattended. It was only under Nana Addo’s administration that work on the road resumed, and Abiire now urges for its further continuation towards Namoo under the Mahama administration.

The condition of road infrastructure in Bongo District is alarming, with several key routes in urgent need of attention:

  1. Bolga-Zorko-Namoo Road: This essential route is crying out for immediate repair.
  2. Bongo-Balungo-Namoo Road: Another critical roadway that has fallen into disrepair.
  3. Bolga-Dua-Soen-Feo Road: A neglected passage impacting local communities significantly.
  4. Bolga-Akayonga-Adaboya-Feo Road: This route is in dire need of rehabilitation to ensure safety and accessibility.

However, highlighting safety concerns, Abiire points to the deteriorating condition of four major bridges in the NDC Constituency. These structures pose significant risks to residents, and the continued neglect raises questions about the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens.

As Hon. Abiire continues his protest for better road conditions, the pressing question remains: will the government prioritize infrastructural development in Bongo District? The recent allocation of GHC 4 billion to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs for 2025 offers a glimmer of hope, but time will tell if it translates into real progress for the beleaguered roads and bridges of this community.

The people of Bongo District deserve more than promises; they need tangible action to address their long-standing infrastructure woes.
