Chairman Wontumi Granted Bail by EOCO

The embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been granted bail by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). Apexnewsgh reports

His lawyer, Mr. Andy Appiah-Kubi, confirmed the development during an interview on Accra-based Neat FM on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Although bail was granted late Tuesday night, Chairman Wontumi’s legal team was unable to fulfill the bail conditions in time, leaving him in custody overnight. Mr. Appiah-Kubi revealed that his client took ill during EOCO’s interrogation and is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital under EOCO’s supervision.

Mr. Appiah-Kubi commended the Executive Director of EOCO, Mr. Raymond Archer, for his fairness and professionalism, stating that the officers at EOCO were exceptionally professional throughout the process.

The lawyer added that his team will begin the process of meeting the bail conditions to secure Chairman Wontumi’s full release.
