Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Assin North District have forcibly removed Christian Ankomahene Amoah, the District Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Director, from his post, asserting that he is not the rightful appointee.
Amoah, who also serves as the Deputy Organiser of the NDC within the district, had occupied the YEA office for just over two months.
On the morning of Monday, July 21, a group of party members, led by the district organizer, stormed the YEA office in Assin Breku. Claiming to have received an official appointment letter, they broke the locks on the office and installed new ones, announcing the assumption of office by Samuel Bright Ativi, who they believe should have been appointed instead.
According to the disgruntled party members, the position of YEA Director should rightfully belong to the constituency organizer, Samuel Bright Ativi. In an interview with Citi News following the upheaval, Ativi expressed his determination to reclaim the role and affirmed his belief in his legitimacy as the new YEA Director.
“In the party, the position should go to the main Youth Organizer, but unfortunately, I do not know what happened; it went to my deputy. So today I have resumed office. I have received my letter,” Ativi stated, reinforcing his conviction that he is the rightful appointee.
The incident reflects deep-seated tensions within the NDC ranks in the district, as supporters navigate the complexities of party leadership and claimed entitlements. With new leadership now in place, the unfolding dynamics within the party are sure to garner attention as they move forward.
