Percival Kofi Akpaloo, leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has been released eight days after his arrest on September 3, 2025, on allegations of financial crimes such as fraud, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, and money laundering.
Akpaloo’s release came on Thursday, September 11, 2025, following several days in police custody. Upon regaining his freedom, Akpaloo spoke to journalists, describing his arrest and detention as politically motivated.
“They [EOCO] say they are conducting investigations. But it is politics as usual. My arrest and detention were due to my recent utterances about the government,” he claimed.
Although Akpaloo had been granted police bail earlier, under conditions that included a GH¢10 million bond with two sureties to be justified, he remained in custody until Thursday after initially being unable to meet the bail requirements.
