The Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West, Rudolf Amoako-Gyampah, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region and across Ghana to unite behind former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2028 elections.
Addressing supporters at Twifo Praso on Monday during Dr. Bawumia’s campaign tour of the Central Region, Amoako-Gyampah argued that it would be counterproductive for the NPP to replace Dr. Bawumia as its flagbearer after the party has invested years marketing him to the electorate. “If we really want victory in 2028, then we have to push someone we have already marketed to Ghanaians, who had 41% when we presented him for the first time,” he declared.
He cautioned that discarding a candidate with national recognition in favor of an unknown face would undermine the party’s chances of success. “If we drop such a person who has been marketed already and go in for an unknown face, then as a party we are not serious for victory,” Amoako-Gyampah added.
Drawing on the tradition of political parties rallying around their seasoned candidates, the MP urged all NPP members and stakeholders to maintain confidence in Dr. Bawumia. “My plea to all party stakeholders is that let us continue to have faith in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a humble man, blessed with vision and leadership qualities,” he said.
