The Asante Bekwai circuit court has sentenced a 28-year-old tiler to a 10-year jail term for robbing a trader of 40 pieces of ice cream.
Simon Blay also stole a purse containing a cellphone and GHS25.00 from the trader.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced on his own plea.
Facts of the case
Narrating the incident in court, Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Ofori said the victim, Sarah Ofori and Blay, were neighbours at Feyiase.
On September 15, 2021, Sarah was going about her normal business when Blay called her under the pretext of buying some of the ice cream.
The convict took advantage of the quiet nature of the area and with a pair of scissors, robbed the ice-cream seller of her items.
Sarah lodged a formal complaint with the Feyiase police.
The prosecution said the next day, the residents, upon hearing the incident, arrested Blay and handed him over to the police.
The cellphone he stole was found in his possession.
The prosecutor added that Blay committed the crime right after he was granted bail by the court in a different theft case.
