North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has raised concerns over President Akufo-Addo’s approval of a sole-sourced contract for Ghana’s 5G technology project, bypassing an open competitive process. Apexnewsgh reports

In a social media post on May 31, 2024, Ablakwa questioned the transparency and accountability of the process, criticizing the decision to award the contract to Next Gen Infraco without competitive bidding.

Ablakwa argued that such a significant infrastructure project requires open bidding to ensure the best value for Ghana. He demanded an explanation from President Akufo-Addo on how he selected the private investors and technology partners without a competitive process.

The MP also expressed concern over the lack of parliamentary scrutiny for the deal, wondering why it was not subjected to bipartisan examination.

Ablakwa’s post concluded with a rhetorical question about the obligations of future governments regarding the contract, expressing dissatisfaction with the perceived lack of transparency and potential long-term implications of the agreement.

“Is the next NDC government expected to respect all the hidden terms of this 10-year sweetheart deal?” he asked, highlighting his concerns about the contract’s potential impact on future administrations.
