The Accra High Court has postponed its ruling on the prosecution’s case against Assin North Member of Parliament, James Gyakye Quayson, to March 27. Apexnewsgh reports
The court was initially set to determine whether the prosecution had made a substantial case against the MP, requiring him to open his defense.
Gyakye Quayson faces charges including deceit of public officer, forgery of passport or travel certificates, knowingly making a false statutory declaration, and perjury and false declaration for office. He has pleaded not guilty and remains on bail.
The delay came after lawyers from the Attorney-General’s office requested more time to file their written submissions. Lead Counsel for Gyakye Quayson, Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata, did not oppose the request, stating that the prosecution should address the matters raised in their submissions.
Justice Mary Ekue Yanzuh adjourned the ruling to March 27 and ordered the prosecution to file their written submissions by Tuesday, March 4. The case has been ongoing, with the Supreme Court previously dismissing a review application filed by Gyakye Quayson.
