The Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa constituency, Mr Kobina Tahir Hammond, has submitted a fresh petition to the National Vetting Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) requesting the disqualification of all three contenders in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.
This development comes after the dismissal of Hammond’s initial petition to the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee on January 2, 2024, where he sought the disqualification of his primary opponent, Mr Sammy Binfoh Darkwa.
The vetting committee, chaired by NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, had given both candidates the green light to proceed with their campaign for the primary.
However, expressing dissatisfaction with the outcome, Mr Hammond has taken the matter to the National Vetting Committee, citing his discontent with the decision made by the regional committee.
In his petition, Mr Hammond argues that his opponents, including Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, Managing Director of the Ghana Publishing Company, are ineligible to participate in the parliamentary primaries due to alleged violations of Article 12(4) and (7) of the party’s constitution.
