Former Defence Minister Kwame Addo-Kufuor has firmly denied the allegations that he is the third wealthiest individual in Ghana.
His legal representatives have released a statement dismissing these claims as unfounded and intended to damage his reputation, stating that they are nothing more than malicious misinformation.
These allegations were initially made in a TikTok voice recording, which alleged that Dr. Addo-Kufuor’s net worth stands at $1.2 billion and that he has investments in various sectors such as banking, agriculture, media, and mining. However, the legal team for Dr. Addo-Kufuor has refuted these assertions by stressing that their client’s financial assets have been properly declared to the Auditor-General and are available for public scrutiny.
They have also indicated their readiness to demand substantiated evidence from the anonymous source making these accusations. Additionally, the statement highlights Dr. Addo-Kufuor’s distinguished career, which includes his successful medical practice and his time as a Member of Parliament
In addition, the statement highlighted Dr. Addo-Kufuor’s previous positions as Defence Minister and Minister for the Interior during President Kufuor’s administration. It also mentioned his appointment as Board Chairman of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) during President Akufo-Addo’s first term.
The legal team representing Dr. Addo-Kufuor has challenged the anonymous individual behind these allegations to disclose their identity and provide credible evidence. They have made it clear that they are prepared to take legal action against those responsible for this damaging smear campaign, citing defamation.
“We have been instructed by our client to emphatically state that he does not possess the alleged substantial funds and will demand concrete proof from the anonymous individual making these baseless allegations,” the statement asserted. It further emphasized Dr. Addo-Kufuor’s well-known record as a successful physician and faculty member at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
