Afred Kwame Agbesi, the former deputy Majority leader, has made a statement regarding the deputy Majority leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Mr. Agbesi has advised Afenyo-Markin to avoid arrogance if he wishes to successfully lead the majority side in Parliament. This advice comes after the resignation of the Majority leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, with reports suggesting that Afenyo-Markin will take over as the leader of the majority bench.
The decision for Afenyo-Markin to take on the role follows a meeting with President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House, where there were discussions about potential changes to the front bench of the party in Parliament. Initially, there was opposition from the majority caucus led by first deputy speaker Joseph Osei-Owusu to the removal of Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as majority leader.
Speaking on the Morning Starr with Francis Abban monitored by Apexnewsgh, Mr. Agbesi expressed concerns about Afenyo-Markin’s leadership style, noting that his demeanor on the floor of the House is often perceived as arrogant.
Mr. Agbesi emphasized the importance of consensus-building in leadership, suggesting that Afenyo-Markin should listen to his colleagues and work towards building consensus to avoid disputes in the House.
The former Deputy Majority leader further highlighted that for future development and progress, leaders in both the Majority and Minority need to work together and respect each other. Failure to do so could lead to challenges and disputes in the House. Agbesi urged Afenyo-Markin to consider this as he prepares to take on the role of leader in the next Parliament.
