Bawku Conflict: 4 Radio Stations Shuts Down by NCA

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has taken decisive action by shutting down four FM Radio Stations in Bawku, Upper East Region, in response to concerns raised by the Upper East Regional Security Council and Ministry of National Security.

The affected stations, Bawku FM, Source FM, Zahra FM, and Gumah FM, have been accused of making inflammatory remarks that have allegedly fueled the Bawku conflict, resulting in loss of lives and property.

The NCA invoked its powers under the Electronic Communications Act, 2008, to suspend the licenses of the stations, citing national security and public interest as the primary reasons for the shutdown.

The Authority emphasized its commitment to collaboration with relevant stakeholders in the communications industry and urged all parties to adhere to regulations governing their operations.

The closure of the FM Radio Stations marks a significant move by the NCA to address concerns about the role of media in exacerbating conflicts and underscores the importance of responsible broadcasting in maintaining peace and security in the region.
