Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to align Ghana’s duties with those of Togo if given the mandate as President. Apexnewsgh reports

According to the Vice President, this move aims to address the issue of smuggling, which currently occurs when importers bring goods through Togo and then smuggle them into Ghana to avoid higher duties.

Dr. Bawumia’s proposed policy seeks to equalize duties at Ghana’s ports with those of Togo, effectively eliminating the incentive for smugglers. By doing so, he believes that smuggling will cease, and trade will become more transparent and efficient.

This promise comes as a response to concerns raised by stakeholders in the trade sector, who have long advocated for a more competitive and harmonized duty regime.

Dr. Bawumia believes If implemented, this policy could significantly boost Ghana’s economy and enhance its reputation as a business-friendly nation.
