Bishop Agyeman Urges Security Forces to Uphold Professionalism Amid Bawku Conflict

Most Reverend Alfred Agyeman, the Catholic Bishop of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese, called on security personnel to demonstrate the utmost professionalism in their efforts to maintain law and order, particularly in relation to the ongoing Bawku conflict.

Bishop Agyeman shared his concerns about the current state of affairs in the affected areas, emphasizing the Catholic Church’s unwavering commitment to standing by vulnerable communities during these challenging times. “Despite the growing insecurity, we remain on the ground,” he stated. “Our personnel continue to support those in need wherever possible, and we have not withdrawn our efforts. We believe we must stay to help those who are suffering.”

However, the bishop stressed that this humanitarian mission cannot proceed without a secure environment. “We need security and protection,” he warned, appealing to the government for prompt action. “Once life and property are secured, we can resume our engagement with the people and continue our assistance.”

Bishop Agyeman highlighted the urgent need for safety, particularly in schools and communities craving humanitarian support. “There are people suffering, and we are unable to reach them because the area is not secure. We used to deliver food to vulnerable groups on both sides of the divide, but now we cannot even get supplies to them,” he lamented.

His poignant message underscored the critical need for government intervention to protect lives and restore stability in the region. “This points to the urgent need for government intervention to save the lives of people living in the region,” he concluded, reiterating the call for decisive action to alleviate the plight of those affected by the conflict.
