The New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Electoral Commission (EC) are set to clash in court today, December 31, over disputed election results in several constituencies. Apexnewsgh reports
The High Court will decide the fate of Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South, after a Supreme Court ruling overturned a previous decision that had granted the NPP’s application for re-collation of results.
The dispute began when the EC initially declared NDC candidates as winners in certain constituencies, only for the NPP to challenge the results. The High Court then ordered re-collations, which led to the EC declaring NPP candidates as winners in seven constituencies. However, the NDC cried foul, accusing the presiding judge of bias and arguing that their candidates’ rights to natural justice had been violated.
The Supreme Court agreed with the NDC, ruling that their candidates’ rights had been breached, but found no evidence of bias on the judge’s part. The case has now been reassigned to a new judge, who will hear the matter today.
As the court prepares to hear the case, tensions are running high between the NPP and NDC. The outcome will have significant implications for the political landscape of Ghana, and the nation waits with bated breath for the court’s decision.
