Cecilia Dapaah’s case: Judge vows not to kowtow to public pressure

She emphasized that she will not succumb to public pressure while dealing with the matter.

Patience Botwe and six others have been brought before the court on 14 provisional charges related to the theft of $1 million and 300,000 euros from the residence of the former Sanitation minister.

During the court proceedings on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, some of the defense lawyers expressed concerns about the prosecution’s repeated requests for adjournments without making any progress.

Lawyer Raymond Felie, representing one of the accused persons, argued that the prosecution’s justification for these adjournments was unfounded. He further emphasized that the case was of public interest, and people are eager to learn about its progress

During the court proceedings, Counsel’s comments followed Senior State Attorney Akosua Agyaponmaa Agyemang’s statement that investigators informed them about the submission of the duplicate case docket to the Attorney General’s office, although they haven’t seen it yet.

The court emphasized that it will handle the matter professionally, treating it like any other case, and will not be influenced by public sentiments.

“Hold it there! I will not Kowtow to public pressure,” the judge remarked.

“I will not treat this case differently from others. Let’s deal with this case professionally,” the Judge said.

“Let’s take public sentiments out of this case,” she stressed.
