China has implemented a ban on officials at central government agencies from using Apple’s iPhones and other foreign-branded devices while at work. Apexnewsgh.com reported
The ban was communicated to staff through workplace chat groups or meetings, but the extent of the orders is unclear. This move comes ahead of the launch of a new line of iPhones, which could potentially raise concerns among foreign companies operating in China as tensions between China and the United States continue to escalate.
China has been aiming to reduce its reliance on foreign technologies for over a decade, encouraging state-affiliated firms like banks to transition to local software and promoting domestic semiconductor chip manufacturing. In 2020, Beijing intensified these efforts with its “dual circulation” growth model, which seeks to decrease dependence on overseas markets and technology due to concerns over data security.
In May, China urged large state-owned enterprises to play a significant role in achieving self-reliance in technology, further escalating the competition amid increasing rifts with the United States.
