CID Boss Issues Stern Warning to Criminals After Police Break Up Armed Robbery Syndicate

A strong message reverberated across Ghana on Wednesday, September 24, as COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), delivered a stern warning to criminals operating in the country.

Standing before reporters at the National Police Headquarters in Accra, COP Donkor assured wrongdoers that no matter how far or long they run, the police will ultimately catch up with them.

Her warning followed a major victory for the Ghana Police Service—a successful, coordinated operation that dismantled a notorious armed robbery syndicate targeting rural banks across five regions: Ashanti, Ahafo, Western, Central, and Eastern. The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, hailed the arrests as a “major breakthrough” in the fight against violent crime. During the operation, police arrested 10 suspects and three others died during a shootout. The team also seized a cache of weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and mobile phones linked to the criminal group.

“To the criminals out there, always remember that you may run and hide, but we will surely get you arrested to face the full rigours of the law. We are coming for you,” COP Donkor declared, her message leaving no room for doubt.

She also reassured the public that the Police Service remains vigilant. “We wish to assure the good people of Ghana that the Police Service will continue to work around the clock to ensure security, law, and order at all times,” she said, expressing the Service’s unwavering commitment to public safety.

COP Donkor urged citizens and stakeholders to actively support the police, emphasizing the importance of reporting suspicious activities and providing credible information to aid investigations. “As always, we call on all our stakeholders and the general public to continue to support the police, report suspicious activities, and share credible information with the police,” she appealed.

Her remarks echoed the firm stance of the Inspector-General: the Ghana Police Service will not relent in making the country an uncomfortable place for criminals. Citizens are encouraged to stay alert and cooperative, with the assurance that any information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and appreciation.
