Chairman of the 9th Council of State, Edward Doe-Adjaho, has emphasized the importance of offering credible advice and recommendations to President John Dramani Mahama. Apexnewsgh reports
Speaking at the orientation for members of the council, Doe-Adjaho noted that the President has access to multiple sources of advice and recommendations, making it crucial for the council’s input to be extremely credible.
Doe-Adjaho reminded the members that their work and tenure are intricately linked to that of the President, and as a creation of the constitution, they are not an institution unto themselves. He encouraged the members to abandon their individual inclinations and instead, infuse their collective views to guide their deliberations.
The former Speaker of Parliament also stressed the importance of confidentiality, stating that the council is not justified in sharing its advice and recommendations with third parties. This, he explained, is the underlying essence of their meetings in camera and oaths of secrecy. However, where their engagements are to be in public, Doe-Adjaho advised the members to exercise cautionary discretion.
As the council begins its work, President Mahama has also urged its members to prove their critics wrong by providing wise counsel and guidance. The President emphasized the importance of the council’s role in advising him on matters of governance, policy, and national development.
