A new curfew from 12:00 midnight to 5:00 am has taken effect in Bole Township and Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Township, along with their surrounding areas in the Savannah Region, starting Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The Ministry of the Interior, in an official statement, called on Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and residents to remain calm and use non-violent means to address the challenges facing their communities. The government emphasized that peace and restraint are crucial during this period of heightened tension.
Authorities have also outlined strict measures to support the curfew. There is a total ban on the carrying of firearms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, with offenders facing immediate arrest and prosecution. In addition, no two or more persons are allowed to be seen riding on motorbikes throughout the day, and the wearing of war regalia has been strictly prohibited.
These directives apply to all residents in Bole, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, and their environs. The curfew was renewed on the advice of the Regional Security Council and enforced by Executive Instrument, as part of broader efforts to maintain law and order.
The Ministry has assured the public that these measures are temporary and aim to restore peace and security in the affected areas.
